TACAN Transceiver

PRESENTATION
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
The NC 12 TACAN transceiver has been designed
for use on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft with Design specification STANAG 5034
respect to the latest requirements in terms of MIL-STD 291B
development methodology (DO178B/DO254). It is Number of channels 126 X-channels
also not submitted to US ITAR regulations. 126 Y-channels
Provision for W and
It can be connected to navigation computers to Z channels
perform:
• Missions where no ground-fixed Navigation- TRANSMITTER
aids exist, using mobile or tactical beacons, Frequency range 1025-1150 MHz
Output power 500 W
• Approach and landing on airports, aircraft Frequency stability ±25 KHz
carriers, offshore platforms, Tracking rate range = up to 4500 knots
• Refuelling missions using an airborne TACAN bearing = up to 20° /s
beacon in the tanker aircraft.
RECEIVER
The system can be operated either with a dedicated Frequency range 962 – 1213 MHz
or a centralised control unit. Sensitivity range = - 90 dBm
Compact and lightweight, the TACAN NC 12 fully bearing = - 87 dBm
complies with STANAG 5034 / MIL-STD-291 and Acquisition time range = 1 s
is the culmination of THALES’ long history in Navigation. bearing = 5 s
It is able to deliver a peak power of 500W in emission. Accuracy range = 0.1 NM
This all-digital system is proposed with different bearing = 1°
interfaces: 1553B, ARINC 429, rear connector Dynamic memory range = 10 s ± 2 s
(NC12B) or front connector (NC12E). bearing = 10 s ± 2 s
A jamming warning indicates the integrity of the INTERFACES 1553B, ARINC 429
data to the pilot. Its modular design, built-in test Built-in antenna Internal or external
equipment and ATE testability make the NC 12 highly control switch
reliable and minimize servicing.
