Dr. Asami Miketa has extensive experience supporting government insti-
tutions in developing long-term energy strategies focused on renewable
energy. She currently serves as the Head of Energy Transition Planning
and Power Sector Transformation at the Innovation and Technology Center
(IITC) of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Bonn, Ger-
many.
Since 2012, Asami has been leading a program at IRENA that assists coun-
tries in effectively formulating long-term energy strategies with renewable
energy. Recently, she led IRENA’s engagement with the African Union Devel-
opment Agency, providing technical assistance for the development of the
Continental Power Sector Masterplan.
Before joining IRENA, Asami worked at the International Atomic Energy
Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria; the International Institute for Applied Sys-
tems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg, Austria; and the World Bank in Washing-
ton, D.C., USA.
Asami holds a Ph.D. in Media and Governance (specializing in Applied Eco-
nomics), an M.A. in Theoretical Economics and Econometrics, and a B.A. in
Economics, all from Keio University in Japan.
