Facial Reflexology Massage Sequence
Facial Reflexology Massage Sequence
Step 1 - Spread oil on the face with even distribution because we are going to massage
the whole face. In facial reflexology theory they like to move from the forehead down to
the chin to start for more of a relaxation effect. This is important because it’s believed
that a lot of health concerns come from stress and nervous system overstimulation.
They follow it up with a tonifying massage which moves from the chin up to the top of
the head. This is said to be more stimulating and doing both directions is good for
balancing the energy of the client.
Step 2 - Start the massage on the middle of the forehead spreading out from the midline
towards the ears and sides of the face. Start with the intention of bringing the client
down and relaxing their nervous system. You can take time to stop for a moment and
get the client to take some deep breaths in through the nose and out through the nose.
For a good 3 breaths. Slow deep breathing will stimulate the vagus nerve.
Step 3 - Pincement (pinching) technique for the brows. Move across the brows while
gently pinching them for a serene effect. Do this 3-5x. This is a good technique for
anyone who’s been over indulging in their phone or computer, relaxing eye strain.
Step 4 - Massage around the cheeks (zygomatic arch). Working for the midline out to
the sides of the face. This will be good for draining the sinuses and clearing congestion.
Step 5 - Press on point 0 which is just beside the ear and this is the basic grounding
point in facial reflexology. It’s said that you should always finish a treatment or sequence
on point 0. Hold there for 10 seconds and do an up and down rubbing motion.
Step 6 - To start the more stimulatory part of this sequence use alternating thumb plucks
on the chin and move in towards the jawline. Ask the client to let you know if they have
any sensitive points and then you would know where they may have some issues based
on the main facial reflexology chart *be a detective. Do some thumb tapping on the
upper lip.
Step 7 - Massage around the cheeks BUT this time pick up the pace slightly and also
move more in an upward direction towards the sides of the face.
Step 8 - Take 2 fingertips, start in between the 2 eyebrows and then lift moving across
the forehead and as you get towards the scalp add a 3rd finger to sweep across the
scalp line. This is known as an energizing technique you can do every morning for a
minute or 2 just to start your day fresh. Finish on point 0 again before we stimulate the
reflex points.
Here is the main reflex point chart and the most important points I'd say that you would
want to stimulate. In general, we are going to press on a point for 10 seconds because
we’re looking to do a very revitalizing treatment as the basic facial reflexology service.
HOWEVER, if you were doing a more focused treatment you can hold the points for 1 or
2 minutes like in acupressure, waiting to feel a relaxation feeling under your fingertips or
with the tool. *This takes time to master. You can rest on points or do circular motions.
I’d say test out different methods and experiment. See the video lecture in the course to
look at the treatment and where the points are located on a real person's face. You can
use your fingertips or the reflexology wand which is good for getting specific and saving
your hands.
We start on points 50,39 located below. They are known to be good for stimulating
digestion!
Face and Scalp Massage
Step 1 - Spread some oil and massage the pecs to start. Spreading across the pecs.
With the massage portion we’re looking to enhance the treatment by opening up the
rest of the circulatory pathways. You can do just the beginning sequence and reflex
points for a 15-20 minute treatment or add this on for a 45 minute treatment. Sweep
across the pecs and down the arms for a couple of strokes.
Step 2 - Take a seat and warm up the shoulders with some kneading. Roll your thumbs
into the upper traps, right in the middle of the upper shoulders and hold there for 90
seconds for relaxation. Take the flats of your knuckles and stretch the shoulders all the
way down into the upper arms.
Step 3 - Lightly massage down the anterior neck to encourage drainage and do a little
scalp massage around the ears. Do this on both sides of the neck and head.
Step 4 - For the facial massage we’re going to follow the same pathway we used to
stimulate the points in the revitalizing sequence. Start underneath the cheeks pulling off
to the side. Good for the sinuses. You can hook in with 2 fingers underneath the cheek
bones. Pressing in with a medium to light pressure. Follow that along the cheek into the
jaw muscle of the masseter. Move to the forehead doing the energizing sequence from
earlier. Start with the fingers in the third eye area and then sweep across the forehead
into the hair line. Pinch the eyebrows for relaxation. Stroke gently across the eyebrows.
Step 5 - Try out this Thai massage technique where you rub on the forehead with the
flats of your knuckles in a fast motion (very stimulating!). Do some up and down motions
on the forehead with your fingers.
Step 6 - Go just below the nose in the upper lip and spread the tissue around the lips.
From there move into the chin doing some nice thumb kneading. Move across the jaw
with this technique (great for a painful TMJ). Get into a flow with your face massage just
move intuitively.
Step 7 - Massage around the jawline. Press your hands in around the jawline and
traction the tissue in a downward motion. When massaging the masseter try going
around the cheekbone and transitioning that into the big muscle on the side of the jaw.
Once you feel it (it’s hard to miss!), do some circular kneading in this area. Do circular
kneading for 60-90 seconds to bring tension down in those VERY tense muscles.
Massage around the ears which is also good for tinnitus and jaw tension. Do an ear pull,
which is good for jaw tension and massage the earlobes from this position too.
Step 8 - Scalp massage time! Take note of the person that you're working on. Do they
have thick or thin hair? Is it more brittle?. If it is you could skip this part but I would say
by and large most people LOVE a good scalp treatment. You can use what I would say
is a moderate pressure on the scalp and try to keep an even rhythm. You can go up and
down with fingertips across the scalp. Press in on the top of the head at different levels
with a static hold for 3-10 seconds on each point. Finish on point 0.
GRAND FINALE - Finish with a hot towel for relaxation. Leave them wanting more!
See the videos in the course to learn the points for common ailments. You can then plug
those into a more specific treatment with the massage sequences instead of the more
general sequence we did here. Which was really more of a broad entire balancing of the
bodies systems.
