1. Login and Register License

1.1 VSS platform

 Please contact Howen sales for demo account, or refer to Howen VSS
Service Manager Manual to deploy your own VSS platform.
 The URL of VSS platform is http://IP address:9966
Default user: admin Password: admin

1.2 Login page

Login page of VSS contains the below:


 Account ID and password
 Supported languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, French,
Vietnamese, Portuguese, Japanese, Arabic ( It is still updating...... )
 Download links for Android VSS APP and IOS VSS APP.

1.3 Register license

1. Click “Obtain Application Code”


2. Copy and send to Howen sales or support team.
3. Howen will revert the Authorization code, input it.
4. Update License.

2.Functions introduction

 The VSS main interface contains Menu bar, settings tools, main page.
 The main menu contains: Dashboard, Prevention, live, Evidence, Reports,
Operation and Maintenance.
 Tools

①Search Menu
②Alarm Message Center: Click to get current alerts.
③Web download: Check the download progress.
④Maintenance info: System alarms pushed by the VSS system.
⑤Language selection.
⑥Setting: Switch video decoding mode, preview video automatic shutdown time, switch

map type, map aggregation mode, speed unit, time display type, etc.

Auto-close live video: When you don’t operate the mouse, VSS will close the live
streaming after the setting time in case if you forget to close and cost lots of SIM card
data.

⑦User, change password or login out.

⑧Custom the layout and color, set according to your preferred type.

2.1 Dashboard

1. Search the overview of the whole devices, get the basic info.

2. Customize the module


You can layout all modules by yourself, delete or move them. Edit the Refresh time.

Each item could be edited.

2.2 Prevention

This is a new function of the VSS system, which will rank all online devices with high risk
so that manager can take actions against drivers.
Online devices contain Driving [Device running with GPS], Parking [Ignition off and speed
is 0], Idle [Ignition on and speed is 0], Not located [No GPS signal].

Click the setting icon, get into the Alarm filtering setup page,
1. Refresh duration: The refresh interval for Vehicle risk List
2. Enable the alerts that need to care.
3. Set the rule for each alert. Could set the threshold and coefficient for each alert.

Risk Value = Alarm Qty(Within threshold time) *coefficient


Then system will use this Risk Value and rank the device. The greater the risk coefficient,

the higher the risk the device have.

For the special Attention list, it will show in both areas.

Click on the vehicle icon with GPS signal [it will not locate on the map without GPS signal],
it will locate on the map, there are short-cut icons for this device, manager team could
watch the live streaming, make 2-way audio, listen or send message to device[Device
should connected TFT monitor].

Warning message: It lists the alert types, alert Qty and coefficient.

2.3 Live video

In this page, it contains the device tree, map, player windows and status bar.

2.3.1 Device Tree

From the device tree, we could quickly know the basic status of device, and perform
corresponding operations, such as live streaming, intercom (2-way audio),
listen(monitoring the voice), get the current vehicle location.

: Search device.

: Customizable icons to display and filter device status.

: Take snapshots.

: Ignition status; Green means ACC on, Gray means ACC off.

: Live: Camera live video streaming; Green means the device detect the camera,
Gray means the device didn’t detect the camera.

: Recording status.

: Listen to device, default for Channel 1.

:Two-way audio.

: Device location.

: Device Geo fence.

Click on the vehicle icon, it will also show the short-cut key.

2.3.2 Live windows

① 1/4/6/9/16 Windows switch

② Stop all channels, right-click the mouse could also turn them off.

③ Minimize or enlarge the windows

④ Hide the streaming windows

⑤ Close the windows.

⑥ Stop the current channel, right-click the mouse could turn off also.

⑦ Snapshot, it will be saved on your local PC.

⑧ Turn off sound, which needs the camera built-in microphone.

⑨ Main-stream switch.

⑩ PTZ control

2.3.3 Tool Bar

1. Switch the map: Bing/Google/Yandex/Openstreet


2. Geofence: It will display the Geofence that made before.
3. Measurement: Distance tool for maps.
4. Save Location: Save your current map location. This location will be automatically
located the next time you log in to the platform
5. Video: Turn on the live streaming windows.
6. Video polling: Select the devices need to watch the live streaming, and then set the
rule, it will play each channel in sequence and interval.

2.3.4 Function menu

Right-click the online device in the device tree, a menu list will pop-up.

 Intercom: Launch a 2-way audio to driver from platform.

Click Start intercom dialog it will open another web page.


Tips: HTTPS page will not display this.

 Audio Broadcast: You can speak/broadcast to several devices at the same time. The

device needs to support the speakerphone function.

 Listen: listen to audio from channel1 (Camera needs to support microphone).


 Device Parameter: Configure parameters of the MDVR, it supports most commonly
configuration.

 AI BOX Parameters: The device which is connecting to AI BOX, configure it.


 Device restart: Remotely reboot the device, need to input your current VSS user’s
password for confirmation.
 Device reset: To restore the parameters to factory settings, need to input your
current VSS user’s password to confirm.
 Output 2 Recovery: Turn off output2.
 Output 2 cutoff: Turn on output2.
 Output 1 Recovery: Turn off output1.
 Output 1 cutoff: Turn on output1.
 G-sensor calibration: Calibrate the G-sensor of the vehicle remotely.
 Issue Text: Release the text (words) to MDVR.

 Disk Format: Disk will be formatted after you input your current user’s password.
Please be attention.

2.3.5 Status Bar

Status bar Includes Status, Event, Alarm and AI Alarm:


①Status: Device real-time GPS info for those selected devices on the device tree.
②Event: Online / Offline event.
③Alarm: Normal Alarm info, NOT DMS&ADAS alarm.
④AI alarm: DMS / ADAS / BSD alarm info.

For alarm type and Active Safety Alarm, users could enter a specific device name and
check its real-time alarm information.

If you want to filter certain alarms, you can select them in the list. Then those alarms will
not be shown in the status bar.

2.4 Evidence

The evidence contains all files[video/audio/picture] from the device.

1. Alarm Clips: Alarm files uploaded to VSS server and stored in Alarm server.

2. History Video: MDVR, alarm server, Auto-download server, cloud server video.

3. Track: The history route/track.

4. Trip: Same as Track, sort by ignition on/off.

5. Snapshot: MDVR timing pictures, then upload to VSS. Need set in MDVR side first.

6. Audio: N/A.

7. Intercom: Record the intercom voice between the platform and the device.

8. Log: Device log, download from MDVR’s storage.

9. Alarm: Alerts that display on track.

10. Tools: Get the tips/function explanation when put mouse on.

2.4.1 Alarm short Video

Alarm short video contains alarm videos&pictures uploaded from device, VSS alarm
strategy pulled videos.

Select the device list, date&time range, alarm type, switch between list mode and tile
mode display. Users can use the evidence center to check whether the alarms are correct.
If the alarm is incorrect, it will be marked as a false alert.

: Displays the result of manual processing.

:Displays the result of cloud server processing(Developing).

:Evidence details. Click to view the alarm video file and alarm details.

:Click to share the alarm video and alarm information.

:Manually process the alarm. Judge whether the alarm is triggered.

:Delete the alarm files.

2.4.2 History video

1. Select a vehicle.
2. Select date and time(can only choose one day)
3. Select the Recording type.
 Type: we can query Normal and Alarm video to play back.
4. Recording Location
 Search Device: HDD/SD card of MDVR, when it is online, user could search.
 Alarm Server: Alarm videos and snapshots, timing snapshot from MDVR.
 Auto Download Server: Stores video files of auto download tasks (refer to chapter
2.6.9 Schedule Download)
 Video Server: Stores video data of cloud server recording (refer to chapter 2.6.3.1
Add Vehicle - Basic Info)
5. Stream: Need make sure device already recorded main-stream and sub-stream(mirror
recording). Then user can search for the corresponding stream here.

2.4.3 Track

Select the device and date&time, search to play the tracks.

All track points are uploaded by the device to the platform, and displayed in chronological
order.

2.4.4 Trip

Trip is same as track, it uses ignition on and off to judge the trip.

2.4.5 Snapshot

Set in the MDVR Network-->Center, select the channels and snapshot interval. Then it

will be uploaded to VSS.

The automatic capture switch must be enabled on the VSS server.

2.4.6 Intercom

Intercom records between the platform and the device are stored on the server PC, and
users can retrieve historical intercom records through this.

2.4.7 Log

Check the device log from WEB directly. Which is used for analyzing device issue.

2.4.8 Alarm

Alerts that display on map.

2.5 Report

At this module, we can query and export Excel of any reports according to condition that
we set —— searching duration and device name.

Report Type: GPS, normal Alarm, AI Alarm(DMS&ASDS), Online-Offline, Mileage,


Fuel, Speed, Operate report, Passenger count, Driver report, SIM card data consumption
report, Temp&Humidity report, load report and OBD.

2.5.1 GPS report

From the GPS report, we could get the basic information about device, such as GPS info,
recording status, video lost, GPS info and ACC status.

1. Search GPS report.


2. Select device and the range that we want to query report (could select 7 days, 30 days)

Search: Selected vehicle’s GPS report will be displayed.

After query, we can to filter the items.

Click icon to export report to an Excel.

Click icon, there will be a pop-up window to display device location.

2.5.2 Normal Alarm report

It contains all alerts.

2.5.2.1 Alarm Report


Search the device ID, date range and alarm type, then could get all in details

If there is video/picture, it will show in Detail.

2.5.2.2 Alarm Distribution


Could get the brief alarm messages for several devices, and check the alarm distribution.

Make the statistics for the devices.

Click the device, it will show detail of this device trend.

AI report is for AI alerts specially, which supports DMS, ADAS and BSD.

This function needs our AI MDVR/Dashcam or AI box.

Get the AI alert distribution for specific date and alarm type

Set the date range and alarm type, then it will show the statistics.

Click the device, it will show the trend, Press icon to return .

Get statistics in details for the device.

Input a device name / ID and query report of moved mileage during the set period.

2.5.6 Fuel Consumption Report

Record the Fuel Level of the vehicle for details. Device side need connect the fuel sensor
that has been integrated with Howen device before.

2.5.7 Operation Report


2.5.7.1 Trip Report

Travel report, the default search for more than 5KM of travel, including the starting
position, the end position and the maximum speed, average speed and so on;

2.5.8.1 Speed Record


Fill in a speed value and select a vehicle on VSS, search record which is bigger than this
speed value.

2.5.8.2 Over Speed Report


Need to configure speed alarm on the MDVR side in advance, when the device moves
faster than the speed threshold, an alarm will be triggered.

2.5.8.3 Low Speed Report


Need to configure speed alarm on the MDVR side in advance, when the device moves
slower than the speed threshold, an alarm will be triggered.
(It depends on the speed you set)

2.5.8.4 Harsh Acceleration report
Need to set speed up alert in speed menu on the MDVR first, when vehicle breaks this
rule, it will send alerts to server side, then we could search.

Need to set speed down alert in speed menu on the MDVR first, when vehicle breaks
this rule, it will send alerts to server side, then we could search.

2.5.11 Data Consumption

Attention: Data consumption is only for reference, if you need accurate report, please
check with your SIM card provider.
2.5.11.1 Data Consumption Record
Select device and configure traffic flow type (GPS packet, Live video, Playback, File
transfer, Alarm linkage download, Auto download) and Access mode ( Wired, WiFi, 5G, 4G,
4G, 2G )and so on, VSS will show data consumption of selected device.

2.5.11.2 Daily Data Consumption Summary

1. Set threshold and search.

2. Daily flow limit indicates the threshold value.

3. Here are vehicles data consumption in one day exceed the set threshold value

2.6 Operation

2.6.1 Operation page


In this menu, we can manage user, fleet, vehicle (device) driver,alarm strategy, virtual
alarm, auto download, Geofence and Oil sensor calibration and Video Cleaning Rules.

2.6.2 Fleet

We can add and modify fleet, or query fleet information.


Add Fleet: Add a new fleet, if there are lot of sub-fleets, we can set parent fleet as
main-fleet.
Notice: Need to add fleet first, then add vehicle (device).

: Modify fleet information.

: Delete selected fleet.

: Query fleet information.

2.6.3 Vehicle

we can add and modify vehicle ( device ), or query vehicle information.


Notice: Need to add fleet first, then add vehicle.

Add Vehicle: Click this button, we can add device one by one,

2.6.3.1 Add Vehicle - Basic Info


After clicking Add Vehicle, there will be a pop-up application sheet:
Basic Info

Icon: Change device appearance on map.


Device No: Device ID, please attention device ID must be unique, user can configure
device ID on the device side, and make them same.
Device Name: Suggest input plate number of vehicle.
Device Type: Device Model, Select the one which is showed on device label.
Fleet: Select one fleet that user vehicle will be involved in.
Server Node: It is Server Node, if you have another Node server PC.

Audio-video Channel Qty: Total camera channels.
Channel Name: You can rename it or use the default.
Intercom Count: Total intercom channels, normally MDVR only have 1.
Input Qty.: Quantity of sensor inputs, input value as per device model.
Output Qty.: Quantity of sensor outputs, input value as per device model.
IO Qty.: Total quantity of Input, input as per device model.
IO name: IO name will follow to how many I/O number that we select

Vehicle info

Optional items, Set the SIM card number, IMEI, IMSI, Contact person number, VIN code.

SIM Card Data Setting

Daily Data threshold: Default setting will use Global setting in Maintenance, unlimited or
specific setting value which according to your data plan.
Monthly Date Threshold: Default setting will use Global setting in Maintenance,
unlimited or specific setting value which according to your data plan.
Data Settle Date: The settlement day for SIM card data. Range is from 1 to 31 ( a
whole month ), VSS will judge whether data consumption exceeds Monthly
limit of at this day per month.

Cloud Recording
VSSserver will keep pulling live streaming when device is online, and save videos on
server PC. It will cost lots of SIM card data, and server PC’s storage.
If you do not need this function, please do not tick it!

2.6.3.2 Batch Add Vehicle


Batch Add Vehicle: Fill in prefix, quantity range, device type and fleet, platform will
automatically fill in the Audio-video Number and other information.

After add, could check the device list as below. If wrong, could delete them.

2.6.3.2 Add Vehicle - Template

Export Template: Export device information template to excel file.

Import Vehicle: Import vehicle (device) information by excel file to add devices by batch,
please refer to the form of export vehicle and do modification, please make sure fleet
name that we put on this sheet has already existed on VSS.

: Add the devices in batch which are linked to VSS but not yet
registered.
After click the “Batch add Vehicle”, then confirm to add them.

2.6.4 Role

Role indicates collection of permissions, and the vehicles you can control.

Some operation about role

1. Modify the Logo, VSS support define different Logo for your different clients.
2. Remove the Logo
3. Edit the Role
4. Delete

2.6.4.1 Add Role
Select necessary permissions and fleets as a template, then name role (template), roles
need to be bound to particular users, so the users have only the selected permissions and
get access to only the selected fleets.
1. Select the Role
2. Add
3. Input the role name
4. Select the function list and Vehicle fleet list
5. Create the Role.
After create the role, then you can create user.

2.6.5 User

2.6.5.1 Add User

: Click the Add User Icon, the following window will pop up, fill in Username,
Role, Password, Account Validity Period and enable. This user will get the set Role,
Click Confirm.

Account validity Period: You can set a permanent one or set the validity range.

2.6.5.2 User Management

: Modify user information.

: Delete user.

: Disable the user.

: Select particular users, then click Batch Delete.

2.6.6 Driver

Click Driver option to check all driver information, this function is for driver identification,
we need to connect RFID reader/IButton with MDVR, or use AI device with driver-released
function.

2.6.6.1 Add Driver

: Click the Add Driver Icon, the following page will pop up. Fill in Driver
Name,gender, Card NO., Fleet, phone and other information of the adding driver. Click
Confirm to save.

Attention: The picture requirement:


0. Make sure there is DMS camera and DMS channel has been set correct.
1. JGEG/JPG format.

2. Use smartphone, adjust mode as 16:9, JPG/JPEG format;The background use white
color, if not, could use the Photoshop to process.
3. Mug-shot, just contains head and part of shoulder.Make them cover 70-80% area of
whole picture.
4. Use Windows' paint tool to adjust the size as 1280*720P.

2.6.6.2 Driver Management

: Query driver information.

: Modify driver information.

: Delete driver.

: Select particular drivers, then click Batch Delete.

2.6.6.3 Driver issued


Select the device users need to release, and select drivers which have been registered,
then click release.

After a while, restart the AI device, then users can check in VSS and MDVR side.

2.6.7 Alarm Linkage

This function is mainly for downloading particular alarm videos from device when device
generates alarm.

2.6.7.1 Add Alarm Strategy

Click the Batch Add Icon, the following page will pop up. Select
necessary Alarm Types at left side. Configure Vehicle or Fleet, Client Response,
Download strategy, Alarm Push Service at right side.

 Vehicles or Fleets

1 Alarm Type: The alerts that need to download;


2 Vehicle or Fleet: Could just choose the devices or Fleet.

 Client Response

2.6.8 Virtual alarm

In order to filter false positives or improve the accuracy of alarms, we designed this virtual
alarm.
It judges the authenticity or importance/urgency based on the number of consecutive
single alarms of the device.
When the selected device generates more than the set number of ticked alarms within the
specified time period, the platform will send an email notification to the user.

A. Vehicle
Alarm Type: Tick alarm types which will generate this email notification after triggering.
Vehicle: Select particular vehicle.

B. Virtual Alarm Trigger Rule


Period: Configure alarm trigger period. Unit: minute
Quantities of Alarm: Configure alarm count.

This function is for automatically downloading videos of particular duration from device

1.Permanent: Not permanent / permanent indicates one-time execution or


permanent execution. If not permanent, we need to set date range.
2.Date Range: If not permanent, set the valid duration of this auto downloading task.

 Task Parameter
1. Task plan Type: Only once/ every Day/ weekly/ Monthly. If choose once, which
means current day and only execute download task one time during the setting time
range.
2. Resources time Range: The time range of recorded (footage) file in HDD or SD card,
which need to be downloaded.

3. Resources in recent days: The range is from 0 ~ 30,0 means today, 1 means

yesterday and today. This setting is for set How many days videos saving in HDD/SD
card need to be downloaded.
4. Network Type: VSS will download videos only when device uses the selected
network types.
5. File Type: Normal Video File / Alarm Video File / Normal Snap File / Alarm Snap File
(snapshot) / Black Box File, we select any of them to download.

2.6.11.1 Fuel sensor setting

The data comes from fuel sensor is Height, so need to take more value and make a
corresponding/match with the real fuel level (L). When you get a height value, check the
current fuel capacity and input. If its un-regular fuel tank, need take more values.

Min.Refule Speed, Min Fuel-theft speed, this need set according your vehicle.

Server video file cleanup time set for some specific fleets; The rule set here will not follow
the system set cleaning time execution;

Central Recording: Cloud Recording file from specific fleet side.

If the disk space is sufficient, the VSS server will clear the disk according to the validity

2.7.1 Server management

2.7.1.1 Server Dashboard

From this dashboard, you can get the basic info of server PC, such as Space status,
CPU/RAM occupy details.

2.7.1.2 Node management


This function is for the case which total vehicles quantity is more than 10000pcs, and
there isa possibility to host more than one VSS server, then please reach Howen support
team for VSS node server package, and configure below on VSS central server.

After that, central server and all of node servers will share all of data, which indicates we
can search report of the units from another server for example.
Click the Network Config, you can configure the correct IP address/domain. These ports
will be configured when user install VSS central server package on a server, if there is no
need, it is recommended to remain default parameters.

2.7.1.3 Data Synchronization

If you need to migrate the server or synchronize Geofence and Driver Info from the old
server to the new server, you can use the data synchronization function here;
Enter the IP or domain name of the target server, as well as the password of its admin
account, check the Geo fence or Driver information data, click "synchronize Now", the
data of the current server will be sent to the target server for synchronization;

Note: Using this feature first erases the Geo-fence and driver information data of the
target server.

B. Function Switch Setting
Cloud Recording Switch

Enable the cloud video function switch of the VSS system.


When you add the device, check the cloud video channel. When the device is online, the
device will also store the video file in the cloud server.
At the same time, you can set how long the video lasts after the vehicle is turned off;
The default device automatically enables cloud recording during ACC ON. -1 indicates
that the ACC status control cloud video recording function is disabled.

You need to deploy the DMS cloud server in advance. Enter the IP address of the DMS
