Subject: Addressing the Issue of Children Out of School

Sir/Madam,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to draw attention to the disheartening
reality that, despite initiatives like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, many underprivileged children remain
outside the folds of education. While significant strides have been made in enrolling children in
schools, there are still countless others who have never even seen a classroom.

This issue requires urgent attention. Governments and NGOs should work collaboratively to
improve access to schools in remote areas, ensure free quality education, and provide mid-day
meals to incentivize attendance. Public awareness campaigns emphasizing the importance of
education can also help bring about societal change.

It is imperative that we act decisively to secure a brighter future for these children and for our
nation.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely,
Siddharth Singh

Subject: Encouraging the Use of Solar Energy to Conserve Electricity

Sir/Madam,

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to make a plea to the public to adopt
solar energy as an alternative to conventional electricity. With rising electricity bills and the
environmental crisis deepening due to fossil fuel consumption, it is imperative to switch to
sustainable energy sources.

Solar energy offers a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution. By installing solar panels,
households can significantly reduce electricity bills and contribute to environmental
conservation. Governments also provide subsidies to make this transition affordable for all.
I urge my fellow citizens to embrace solar power not only to lower expenses but also to play a
vital role in protecting our planet for future generations.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely,
Divyansh

5A..The survey conducted among teenagers (aged 13–19) in public and government schools of Delhi
highlights their preferred leisure activities. The chart reveals varied interests, with notable time
spent on activities like net surfing and watching tv, which dominate the preferences. Activities
such as meeting friends show moderate participation, indicating a balanced interest among some
students. Interestingly, cell phone garners the least attention, suggesting a lack of interest or
access. The data also reflects possible influences of technology and social trends, as [mention
trends, e.g., "digital activities outpace traditional hobbies"]. These findings suggest that leisure
choices are shaped by modern-day conveniences, peer influence, and available resources,
offering insights for schools to tailor extracurricular programs effectively.

5B. The histogram depicting the rise in deaths due to violence in recent years is a concerning indicator
of societal unrest. Educated youth can play a pivotal role in countering this trend and fostering
peace. Through awareness campaigns, they can promote the values of empathy, tolerance, and
non-violence. By leveraging social media responsibly, they can spread messages of unity and
highlight the importance of dialogue over conflict. Engaging in community service, youth can
address root causes like poverty, ignorance, and inequality, which often fuel violence. Moreover,
educated individuals can set examples of constructive behavior and become mediators in
resolving disputes. Their active participation in policymaking and law enforcement advocacy
can also ensure a sustainable framework for a peaceful society.

ii..The message conveyed in the chapter "The Sermon at Benares" is that attachment to desires
and focusing on troubling situations increases stress and leads to sorrow. In this chapter, Buddha
teaches that by letting go of attachments and refraining from overthinking, one can find peace and
happiness. He emphasizes that suffering arises from dwelling on problems and situations that are
beyond one's control. By adopting a mindset of acceptance, individuals can overcome their mental
struggles and find tranquility. In "The Black Aeroplane", the pilot’s behavior reflects this principle.
He is flying through a storm and encounters an unknown, seemingly supernatural plane. Instead of
questioning the situation or allowing fear and confusion to overwhelm him, he follows the mysterious
plane without hesitation. His focus remains solely on the task at hand—keeping his plane in line with
the other. He does not stress about the unknown, nor does he overanalyze the circumstances, which
allows him to stay calm and focused during a potentially dangerous situation. The pilot's acceptance of
the situation and his faith in following the path laid out before him, without unnecessary worry,
demonstrates a practical application of Buddha's teachings.

11.Answer ANY ONE of the following two questions, in about 100-120 words. 6

1.In the story "A Question of Trust" by Victor Canning, Horace, the main character, is a man
who has been betrayed once by a thief This experience leaves him deeply suspicious of others
and hesitant to trust anyone again. The phrase "Once bitten, twice shy" means that after a bad
experience, a person becomes cautious and less trusting, having learned from their previous
mistake.

Horace’s encounter with theif is the turning point that shapes his outlook on life. After being
deceived by Triton, Horace feels foolish and vulnerable. The story shows that, while he initially
trusts Triton and is even deceived by his smooth talk, he later becomes wary and more suspicious
of people. His interaction with thief makes him believe that it is safer to remain cautious rather
than take the risk of being duped again.

Horace’s ability to trust again is uncertain, but based on his experience in the story, he would
likely be extremely cautious and perhaps would not easily trust others, embodying the idea of
"Once bitten, twice shy." His view of trust may remain forever changed by his encounter with
thief , making it difficult for him to open up to others in the future. However, given time and a
trustworthy individual, there may still be a possibility for Horace to rebuild some trust, though it
would never be the same as before.

2.In the story "The Making of a Scientist" by Robert W. Peterson, the qualities of curiosity and
motivation are indeed central to the development and success of Richard Ebright as a scientist. From a
young age, Ebright displayed an intense curiosity about the world around him, especially in the fields
of nature and science. This curiosity, paired with his deep motivation to understand how things work,
laid the foundation for his achievements and scientific accomplishments. Both curiosity and motivation
were instrumental in shaping Ebright’s path to becoming a successful scientist. These qualities ensured
that he was not merely going through the motions of learning but was deeply engaged in scientific
inquiry. They drove him to ask important questions, conduct original research, and push the boundaries
of what was known in his field.

Through his curiosity, Ebright found interest in pursuing science, and his motivation helped him
overcome challenges, such as setbacks in his early experiments. His dedication led to his eventual
success as a biologist, with numerous scientific publications and awards to his name.
