1. Directions:  
1. Read  page    ______  in  your  textbook.      
2. Define  “group”  and  “period”  in  terms  of  the  PTof  E  somewhere  on  this  page.  
3. Write  in  the  group  and  period  numbers  on  the  PTof  E.  
4.  Put  the  atomic  number  for  each  element  in  the  top  left  hand  corner  of  its  box  
5. Use  the  information  on  the  back  to  color  in  the  electrons  for  the  first  18  elements.    Start  in  the    
first  shell  and  work  your  way  out.  
6. Write  each  element’s  symbol  and  the  number  of  electrons  that  fill  the  outer  most  electron  shell    
(also  called  valence  electrons)  in  the  box  below  each  atom.  
7. For  elements  19  –  54  (except  the  transition  metals),  write  in  the  element  symbol  and  predict  the    
number  of  valence  electrons
