Zacchaeus Climbs the Sycamore Tree

Luke 19:1-10

Learning about Zacchaeus teaches us to be faithful all the time. We

should be faithful and honest in all that we do and
with everyone we meet.

A long time ago there was a man named Zacchaeus. He lived in

a town of Jericho. He was a very rich and important man.

He worked as a tax collector.

His job was to collect the tax
money from the people. Tax
collectors used to collect extra
money from the people and keep it
for themselves, so people didn’t
like them.

One day, Zacchaeus heard that

the Lord Jesus Christ was in his
town, and he really wanted to see
Him.

14
The only trouble was, everywhere our Lord
Jesus Christ went, there were always crowds
of people all around him.

Zacchaeus was very short; he couldn’t see the

Lord Jesus Christ because of all the people
standing around Him. He had an idea: he
climbed up a sycamore tree so he could see.
Can you imagine that? A grown man climbing up a tree!!

Even though Zacchaeus was a very important man, he wasn’t

embarrassed to climb the tree in front of all the people. Do
you know why?

It was because he really wanted to see the Lord Jesus Christ.

Everyone loved Him and said many good things about Him.

Zacchaeus had a hard time climbing the sycamore tree.

Every time he tried to climb, he would slip and come back down.
Finally, he was able to climb to the top and waited for the
Lord Jesus Christ to walk by the tree.

When the Lord Jesus Christ walked by, Zacchaeus had a nice
surprise. The Lord Jesus Christ stopped, looked up, called
Zacchaeus by his name, and said: “Zacchaeus, come down… for
today, I want to come to your house.”

15
What a great surprise!! The Lord Jesus
Christ spoke to Zacchaeus, the man no one
liked. He knew his name and He even asked
to come to his house!!

Zacchaeus changed when the Lord Jesus

Christ came to his house. He became a
faithful and honest man to everyone.
Zacchaeus returned all the money that he
took from the people. He also gave half of
his money to the poor people.

When our parents give us money for donation, we should put

all of it for donation and not keep any of it for ourselves.

We should be like Zacchaeus and be

honest and faithful to everyone.

"He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much”.
