Identity

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited is a multinational firm whose services include audit and
assurance, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax and other related activities. This

EY), thus it is one of the largest professional service networks in the world operating with
close to 90% of the Fortune Global 500® and thousands of private companies.

The powerhouse that is Deloitte nowadays is the product of over a century's legacy and
multiple business mergers. Its historical evolution can be traced back to the 19th century and
the development of modern accounting in England when William Welch Deloitte, an
independent public accountant, successfully conducted an audit for The Great Western
railway. Witnessing the increasing demand for this service, the accountant and politician
George A. Touche established his own company in 1898. In 1972 Deloitte Haskins & Sells
was created as a result of the merger of Deloitte and Haskins & Sells, a leading U.S. audit
firm founded by Charles Haskins and Elijah Watt Sells. By 1989, the firm joined forces with
Touche Ross to form Deloitte & Touche, which was subsequently renamed Deloitte Touche
Tohmatsu as a recognition of the work of three leaders of the profession. (Deloitte. (n.d.).

As of today, Deloitte employs more than 345,000 professionals and carries its motto of

Between 2021 and 2022 Deloitte's total revenue saw an 18% increase from $50.2B in FY2021
to $59.3B in FY2022. By providing five different types of service, each business represents
unequal segments of the revenue with consulting being its main activity (provided in 2022
$25.8B). Geographically, Deloitte's largest market is the US, where $30.7B of its revenue
comes from. (Deloitte. (n.d.). Global Report on Business (2022))
Environment

To chart the main external influences impacting Deloitte, the PESTEL framework is going to
be used. It evaluates the influence of political, economic, social, technological,
environmental, and legal factors on an organization.

As previously stated, Deloitte is a multinational firm. This reach exposes it to numerous

political environments. The framework within which Deloitte operates is directly shaped by
the stability of governments and the policies instituted in that country. An example was the

Economic conditions directly shape the performance of Deloitte. Elements like inflation,
recession or the opposite, economic growth can influence consumer decisions. Economic
downturns may constrain client's budgets, thus reducing spending on consulting and advisory
services, affecting Deloitte's revenue. This logic also applies in the opposite direction if
makers see economic growth.

demographics and social trends. These factors require the firm to remain agile and responsive
to changing societal dynamics. One of the principles by which Deloitte operates is diversity
and inclusion and commitment to its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). These are crucial
in maintaining the reputation and adapting to social influences (Kwasi Mitchell, 2023)

Deloitte is proactively embracing technological advances acknowledging the fact that

Deloitte must follow the strict standards given by the legal and regulatory framework. They
cannot alternate them as it can jeopardize the firm or their own clientele leading to potential
legal actions.

challenging terrain of company strategy and execution. Deloitte's methodology specially
integrates strategic planning and business transformation which might lead to a boost in
performance. They customise strategies to meet the difficulties of each customer and industry
by utilising their industry expertise, data analytics capabilities, and technology solutions,
which align their goals and objectives. Moreover, Deloitte also helps businesses change their
operations, procedures, and business models to accommodate evolving market dynamics and
technological advancements which involve process optimization, organisational
reorganisation, or digital transformation. As a result, it is significant that the influence of
Deloitte's strategy consulting services in businesses through creative and proper plan have
boost their performance as the target and the sustainability of the organisation.(Strategy.

With extensive business knowledge and a wide network of professionals, Deloitte provides a
full range of services covering the whole merger and acquisition lifecycle. They help
customers find targets, carry out thorough due diligence, and create effective integration
plans. Deloitte is also excellent at assisting businesses in making educated choices by
assessing the operational, financial, and strategic facets of potential M&A deals. They are
aware that a smooth integration process is essential to the success of any transaction, and their
knowledge guarantees that clients can efficiently combine and maximise recently acquired
businesses or assets. Deloitte helps clients reach their strategic goals and optimise the value of
their merger and acquisitions (M&A) transactions by utilising their extensive analytical
capabilities, industry knowledge, and worldwide reach. (Strategy. (n.d.). Deloitte

Deloitte is also careful and serious in developing their internal sectors such as human and
technology. Firstly, building a culture that encourages learning, development, and diversity is
always a top priority for Deloitte. Their goal is to draw in, hold on to, and nurture exceptional
talent so that their professionals may fulfil their potential and have a beneficial influence. To
support and develop the talent of their future employees, they have established many awards
and recognition such as South Africa
Choice Awards 2022, and Universum South Africa Most Attractive Employer Awards 2022
(Awards and recognition, Deloitte). Furthermore, they also emphasize the importance of
technological enhancement. As part of their purpose, they assist clients in using emerging
technologies and the digital revolution to propel their businesses forward. Risk management
is an application of Deloitte technology. This can protect organisations against a wide range
of potential threats and uncertainties through a wide range of services, including supply chain
risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and one of their most popular services: cyber security
which protects clients from cyber threats. With the help of Deloitte's risk management
technology, businesses can navigate the unpredictable landscape of the modern business
world with confidence knowing they are ready to identify and manage any hazards.
Structure

Having looked at the strategy of Deloitte, we will explore the formal structure of the
organization. Just as with any organization, structure is of uttermost importance to achieve
efficient business practices. This is also the case with Deloitte, a leading global provider of
audit and assurance, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax, and related services
(Deloitte Global, 2022a). As a global industry leader that has existed for more than 175 years,
active in 150 countries and territories with more than 415,000 people worldwide, Deloitte
excels at having an up-to-standard structure (Deloitte US, 2015). Deloitte s well-defined
structure allows it to lead the industry from local to global levels.

The Deloitte Organization consists of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL) also
known as Deloitte Global and its member firms (Deloitte Global, 2022a). DTTL functions
using the member firm structure, where numerous member firms share benefits with one
another (IvyPanda, 2022). These firm members are independent firms primarily organised on
a regional or national level embracing the same brand and other professional guidelines and
protocols and are neither branches nor subsidiaries of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited.
This structure enables the member firms to have a deeper understanding of the regional
markets. While also facilitating these firms to be more independent and to have a direct
contribution to their credibility and growth. For illustrative purposes, consider Deloitte
Tohmatsu LLC not to be mistaken with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited - a member firm
of DTTL. This firm is active in Japan and is part of both Deloitte Asia Pacific Limited, a more
regional member of DTTL, and the Deloitte Network in Japan (Deloitte Japan, 2023). Deloitte
Tohmatsu LLC is further divided into its members, each departmentalized by the service
provided (as seen in appendix A).

As the Deloitte Organization and its members must maintain high levels of quality and
integrity, it is of dire need to maintain governance and management structures on both global
and regional levels. Deloitte Global is led by the DTTL Executive and the DTTL Board
(Deloitte Greece, 2015). The DTTL executive consists of certain leaders of the Deloitte

DTTL's vision and strategy and have management responsibility in clients, services, and
talent; operations; regulatory; and legal matters. The DTTL Board - as the body with the most
authority - oversees the most critical governance matters such as global strategies, major
transactions, and the appointment of the CEO. Member firms must live up to certain criteria
to achieve efficient management. DTTL has implemented standards for its members to
achieve this. These standards include a formal and centralized management structure, a
governing body, and a representative.

As seen above, the formal structure of the Deloitte Organization is a very intricate and well-
defined one. It is evitable to say that this structure is a key factor to the global success the
Deloitte Organization lives up to.
Sustainability

as the most pressing issue to focus on over the next year, furthermore 75% of the organization
says that they have increased their investment on sustainability over the past year. Deloitte
has taken several actions to combat the ugly reality of climate changes efficiently. Some of
them being using more sustainable materials like lower-emitting products, increasing the
efficiency of energy use for instance energy efficiency in buildings, using energy efficient or
climate-friendly machinery, technologies and training employee on climate change actions
and impacts, developing new climate friendly products or services, requiring suppliers and
business partners to meet certain sustainability criteria, updating, or relocating facilities to
make them more resistant to climate impacts, and incorporating climate consideration into
lobbying or political donations. (Deloitte, 2023)

Furthermore, Deloitte has a special focus on developing a more sustainable and responsible
supply chain through the WorldClimate
changes. The organization is assessing, managing, and reducing supply chain emissions that

Earlier this year in March, Deloitte also launched GreenLight Solution, a decarbonization
SaaS tool that facilitates an organization in unlocking a clear path to net-zero emissions with
the help of Artificial Intelligence. According to Dilip Krishna, Deloitte Global Sustainability
& Climate chief technology officer this application will provide a way to combine

wide sustainability goals. It also partners with local communities to support local
environmental and social causes. Thus, Deloitte has a strong portfolio of sustainability
initiatives taken to reduce the effects on environment, while at the same time remaining one
of the big-4 Firms globally.

first signs of their internalization. Out of the four major accounting firms, Deloitte ranked

markets, opening a wealth of opportunities. They're gaining new clients, upping their
earnings, and innovative ideas. It's not just about making money; it's about crossing borders
