Steve Jobs
On February 24 1955, in San Francisco, California a baby boy was born to a simnggle mother. The mother was disappointed the baby was a boy and not a girl so in the middle of the night, she called a lawyer and sais We have an unexpected baby boy, do you want him?". The mother however, was reluctant to sent the child to a home where he would not receive a college education. The adopted parents promised they would send the baby boy to college when the time came. However, when the time did come, the boy dropped out of college. He said: I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5 deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. Aged 20, the man started a company in a garage on April 1, 1976. Later that year he debuted his product at the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto, California. A local store offered to buy 50 machines and to finance the production, he had to sell his most expensive possession: his Volkswagen van. He named his company - Apple in memory of a happy summer he had spent as an orchard worker in Oregon. But the company failed and after loss after loss the man wanted to gve up, but he didnt. He worked on a new machine and By 1986 the Macintosh was a huge success. After 10 years, starting from 2 kids working in a garage, Apple computer had grown into a $2 billion dollar company with over 4000 employees. But at age 30 the man was fired from his own company- so he sold over $20 million of his Apple stock, spent days bicycling along the beach, feeling sad and lost, toured Paris, and journeyed on to Italy. Later on he went on to say: I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.. During the next five years he started two companies that you may know- NeXTStep and Pixar. Meanwhile, his old company, Apple was under immense pressure from rival Microsoft and in 1996 posted billions of dollars in losses. In December 1996 he convinced Apple to buy NeXT and make its software the foundation of the next-generation Mac OS and soon he was named Apples interim CEO in 1997. In 2004 he was diagnosed with cancer on his pancreas. After a long successful run of creating more interesting and exciting products, he died a few days ago. His death was mourned by millions around the worl- as he was a man who shaped our world in so many ways. He made us dream bigger. He widened our horizons. He was- Steve Jobs.
