instances of the new lesson
The Macro elements of Fertilizer and their functions
Among the 10 essential nutrients needed as food for plant
development only 3 of them are usually taken from the soil, air, and
water in sufficient amount. These are the macro elements: nitrogen (N),
phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) or NPK. The micro elements are
sulfur, zinc, molybdenum, copper, boron, manganese, and magnesium.

The Table below showed the functions of the macro elements, signs
and symptoms of deficiency, and sources:

Fertilizer Functions Deficiency sources

D. Discussing New Concepts and Guided activity: True or False

Practicing New Skills #1 Directions: Identify if the given statements are TRUE or FALSE. If the
statement is TRUE, show your thumbs up with a happy face
and if it is FALSE, show your thumbs down with a sad
face .

1. If the plants has deficiency in nitrogen, its leaves became pale

yellow in color and its lower leaves will die early.
2. The function of phosphorous is to improve quality of fruits and
increase disease resistance.
3. If the plants has no enough tillers per hill, it means that it has a
deficiency of phosphorus.
4. Urea, which contains one primary plant nutrient is classified as
complex fertilizer.
5. Complex fertilizer contains 2 or 3 primary plants nutrients where
two these are in chemical combination. `
E. Discussing New Concepts and Students will be grouped into two groups.
Practicing New Skills #2 Directions: Identify the elements or essential nutrients needed by the
plants based on their situation.
1. 2. 3.

Phosphorus Potassium Nitrogen

4. 5.

Representative of the group who will compete to the other group will be
determined by its members. Then, the group who will accumulate the
highest points will be declared winner and will receive a prize.

F. Developing Mastery Directions: Classify the given fertilizers as STRAIGHT, COMPLEX and
MIXED. Write your answer in a ¼ sheet of paper.

G. Finding practical application What do you think are the importance of knowing the appropriate
of skills and concepts in daily elements or essential nutrients needed by the plant together with the
living classification of fertilizer to be used?

Do you think your acquired knowledge today has great impact in having
successful farming?

H. Making Generalization and Directions: Using the given organizers, enumerate the concepts you had
Abstraction of the learned about essential nutrients and classification of fertilizer.
Lesson

I. Evaluating Learning Students will be grouped according to their intelligences or interests.

They are free to choose the activity they want to perform. Rubric will
also be presented and agreed by everyone.

 The Illustrators
 The Singers
 The Writers

Groups will state the functions of the macro element they are going to
picked. They will show its functions through drawing, singing and
writing. Groups can use the available materials inside their classroom to
enhance their performance.
