LEARNING OBJECTIVES

M At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to use connecting words ‘and’ and ‘but’ in writing sentences correctly.

C At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to use capital letters and full stops in writing sentences correctly.

1. Ask pupils to talk about their holiday activities.


I. PRE-LESSON
2. Encourage them to share with the class.
1. Activity 1:
 Write the verbs play, watch listen, make, have, take, swim, eat, see on the board and ask pupils
to use them in order to say what they did at the weekend.
 E.g. I played with my friends at the weekend.
 Ask pupils what they remember about Tim’s holiday in Mexico and James’s holiday in
Australia.
 Ask pupils to re-read the text on SB pg 91 to check.
 Introduce any vocabulary that you think will be useful to pupils talking about their holidays.
 Draw attention to the questions in the blue box on Student’s Book, p.91. Ask pupils to write
their answers to these questions in their notebooks. Short answers are ok at this stage.
II. LESSON
2. Activity 2:
DEVELOPMENT
 Writing Tip: Read it out aloud and explain to pupils. Point out the examples.
 Write a few examples on the board. (refer to TB pg 138)
 Ask pupils to read the sentences chorally, filling in the ‘and’ and ‘but’ where necessary.
3. Activity 3:
 Ask pupils to write an email to James to tell him about their holiday.
 They can use James’s email as a model or they can use the questions in Activity 1.
 Remind pupils to use connecting words ‘and’ and ‘but’, and to pay attention to punctuation,
using James’s email as a model.
 If you have email set up, pupils could use computers for this activity.
 Monitor and help pupils, asking questions to elicit as much language as well as the content.
1. Display pupils’ work and conduct gallery walk.
