TOPIC: THE HUMAN BODY
SUB-TOPIC: Parts of the body (Head, Ears, and Eyes)
RATIONALE: this topic is about the human body, human body is made of different body parts.
Each part of the body is very important and has a particular function. Therefore, learners should
learn about the different parts of the body such as head, nose, ears, legs, hands, mouth and eyes.
The learners will enhance the concept of self-awareness, self-protection, care of body and self-
protection as they grow up. This is the first lesson in the series of four lessons and discussion,
demonstration and Role play will be used.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1:-Learners to name external parts of the body.

LESSON DEVELOPMENT
Introduction/ starting together
• Introduce the lesson by singing the song
Head and shoulder, knees and toes (2x) and eyes and ears and chin
and nose, Head and shoulder, knees and toes, knees and toes.
Step 1:
• Ask learners to stand in a circle while you stand in the middle.
• Demonstrate touching and naming different external parts of the body while learners
observe.
Step 2:
• Ask learners to also touch and name different external parts of their bodies as observed.

• Demonstrate touching mentioned parts of the body while singing the song.
• Ask the learners to sing along and touch the head, ears and eyes.
• Praise all learners for their participation.
Step 3:
Activity
• Learners to sing the song “Head and shoulder, knees and toes………..”
• Learners to stand in a circle and observe teacher name and touch parts of the body.
• Learners to name and touch different external parts of the body as observed
• Learners to sing along while touching the parts of the body mentioned (head, eyes and
ears).

CONCLUSION/ SHARING TIME: Listen and observe as learners name the external parts of
the body (head, eyes and ears).

RATIONALE: this topic is about the human body, human body is made of different body parts.

LESSON DEVELOPMENT
Introduction/ starting together
• Revise the previous lesson by asking the learners to point to the head, ears and eyes e.g.
Simon says point at the head.
Step 1:
• Ask learners to say the rhyme ‘Simon says….’ while touching the nose, then mouth.
• Ask learners to turn to page 1 of the learner’s book and look at the picture of external
body parts.
• Let learners in groups to name the parts of the body they see in the learner’s book on
page 1(nose and mouth).
Step 2:
• Ask individual learners to name and touch the nose and the mouth.
• Help learners having difficulties to say the rhyme and do the action.
• Praise and thank all the learners for their participation.

Step 3: Activity
• Learners to say the rhyme “Simon says………” as a class.
• Learners to observe the external parts of the body shown on page 1 of learners’ book.
• Learners to name the parts of the body they see in the learner’s book (nose and mouth).
• Individual learners to name and touch the nose and mouth under instruction.

CONCLUSION/ SHARING TIME - Listen and observe the learners name the external parts of
the body (nose and mouth).

• Using the rhyme ‘Simon says’ demonstrate naming and touching legs, hands e.g.
Simon says touch the leg
Simon says touch the hand
• Let the learners say the rhyme ‘Simon says’ while naming and touching the leg and hand
• Display the chart/learner’s book, page1. showing external body parts for learners to
observe
• Ask individual learners to name and touch the legs and hands.
• Help learner having difficulties to do the activities.
• Pay particular attention to the learners with special needs.

Activities
• Learners to revise the previous lesson on the nose and mouth through the song “head and
shoulders …”
• Learners to say the rhyme ‘Simon says’ while touching the leg and hand
• Learners to observe the external parts shown in the chart/learner’s book page 1
• Individual learners to name and touch the external body parts shown in the chart/learner’s
book (legs and hands).

CONCLUSION/ SHARING TIME – Observe and listen as learners name the external parts of
the body (leg and hand).
