BIBLICAL FINANCES

WHAT IS MONEY- Medium of exchange; Unit of account which things are priced or valued; Measurement of wealth or worth

“This world revolves around money. So while on earth we need money to live”

God knows our need of money


-Money and wealth is mentioned in the bible multiple times

WARNING: God warns against love of money which is the root of all evil ( 2Tim 3:10; 1Tim 6:10
SAD FACTS
Financial conflict is one of the major cause of divorce.
Sibling feuds because of inheritance

“When God is served, Mammon is used benefificently. When Mammon is served, the claims of God are ignored.” (Morgan)

. “Money possessing a man is the direst curse, for it hardens his heart and paralyzes his noblest powers. The money of a God-
possessed man is a blessing, for it becomes the means of his expressing his sympathy with his fellows.” (Morgan)

GOAL:
Understanding the Biblical Perspective on finances may resolve marriage financial conflicts.
We may be able to manage our finances wisely.

BIBLICAL TRUTHS ON FINANCES


IN THE SIDE OF GOD
GOD OWNS ALL THINGS ( Ps 14:1; Haggai 2:8; 1 Cor 10:26; Col 1:16; Rev 4:11b)
GOD PROVIDES ALL THINGS
God knows and supplies all our needs ( Phil 4:19; Mat 6:31; Luke 12:22-24)
God provides for those who love Him-Prov 8:21
God decides in whom He likes to give much according to one’s ability and according to God’s purpose. (2 Chronicles 1;12 :Mat
25:14-15 )

Jeremiah’s Question- Jer 12:1-3a


THE BLESSING OF MULIPLICATION IS GIVEN BY GOD TO MAN Gen 1:28
CURSE CAME THROUGH ADAM BECAUSE OF SIN- Gen 3: 17-18
Mat 13:24-30 Parable of the wheat and tare. God allows the good and the evil grow together for the good’s safety

EVERYONE IS GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY AND A CHOICE


Gal 6:7 for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. '
Ecc 11:5-6 - Do not withold your hand
Ps 37:4 'Delight yourself also in the Lord , And He shall give you the desires of your heart.'

IT IS NOT A SIN TO BE RICH


Riches are good when it comes from God
It is not sin either to enjoy the fruit of your hands- Ps 128: 2
Wealth is God’s heritage. It is the gift of God- Ecc 5:18-19-

IT IS NOT EASY TO BE RICH. WHY?


Temptation is near when you are rich ( 1 Tim 6:9)
Riches if not handled well can draw you away from God. ( 1 Tim 6:10)
It is harder for a rich man to get to heaven (Mat 19:23-24)
Luke 12:48b For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of
him they will ask the more.'

GOD HAS SPECIAL HEART FOR THE POOR:
God will never abandon the poor- Is 41:17
God hears the cry of the poor 9 Ps 12:5; Ps 34:6)

RIGHT ATTITUDE TO WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN US


Give thanks always, ( 1 Thes 5:18)
Be contented, do not covet ( Heb 13:5)- Contentment is being thankful for what you have now, but it does not mean you can not
desire for more
Trust in the Lord, not in riches ( 1 Tim 6:17-19)
Walk in faith, not in fear ( Ps 112:6-8; Is 41:10)

BALANCE:
- 1 Tim 5:8 Dependence on God will not put aside our responsibilty to our children as parents
Teach them to pray everytime they need something
Teach them to trust in the Lord always

*** Acknowledging God as the source and giver of all things would correct the “I” and MINE attitude in the family.***

IN THE SIDE OF MAN


MAN IS CALLED AS STEWARDS OF GOD’S CREATION
STEWARD
Definition: a manager of something that is not his own, but somebody’s possession that is entrusted to him
Gen 1:26- “Stewardship” is a calling to all mankind
Luke 16:1-13- Parable of the unjust Steward
Unrighteous mammon speaks of money or worlddly wealth
True riches speaks of the Spiritual riches
In God, money is the least of all things, but man’s righteousness is being tested by how he manages worldy wealth.
v13- No servant can serve 2 masters.

HOW TO BE A GOOD STEWARD OF THE UNRIGHTEOUS MAMMON


Be debt free- Mark 12:17; Rom 13:7a. Pay your taxes, tithes, debts
Save
Budget wisely-AGREE WHO SHOULD MANAGE THE BUDGET
Invest wisely- Invest means putting money, effort or time into something to make a profit or get an advantage. Mat 6:19-21
Be generous
Work hard and be fruitful- Eph 4:28; Ecc 11:5-6
Committ all your ways to the Lord and Always ask for God’s favor- Ps 90:19

MAN IS MADE ACCOUNTABLE TO WHAT GOD HAS ENTRUSTED TO HIM


Romans 14:12 'So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. '
Parable of the Talents -Mat 25: 13-40
God is serious when He Said, be fruiful and multiply
We either receive a eternal reward or eternal damnation
