Title of work: ( N/A ) (Comissioned Piece) Location of work: Twitter, Social Media Description: In this illustration a woman views a long parchment of paper in a room surrounded by trinketry. She is illustrated in a painterly style like the 19th century aesthetic and dark fantasy. The woman wears a long dress that’s unlike modern wear and seems to be relaxed in this place, perhaps its due to what she is reading or that she feels comfortable in this room. Interpretation: This illustration focuses to me on a narrative storytelling of a character we don’t know. Seeing as this was a commission, I can only presume that this is a character from the commissioner of their own design, placed into the world that they exist in for perhaps a book or some kind of narrative storytelling. The woman judging by her clothes seems sophisticated and important in society due to the long dress fabrics with am embellished cloak, The scroll she is looking over has a seal of some kind stamped into it, highlighting it’s importance. Use in Teaching (Lesson For a lesson, I would show an older class of students this piece and Idea and medium) similar pieces from the artist. I would then task them to create their own version of this piece, but make it feel customed to them in this world. To design and place themselves in a fantasy world in a singular room and create a space that they would fit into. For example, a student believes they would do well as a blacksmith, their room would contain objects relating to their interests in this fantasy setting and a visual creation of themselves as a character fitting into it. This would be created through several sketches thumbnailed and then pushed forward with acrylic paint to capture a similar aesthetic feel to the initial artist’s creation. 3-5 Guiding Questions: Where do you think we are inside this illustration? Who do you think this woman is? What objects populate this environment that we recognize? What colors do we see primarily used in this illustration? Why do you think those colors are the most popular, what could they mean? Image Source (url): https://twitter.com/ToiVarg/status/1748011173612601811/photo/1
