Submission Guidelines

1. Use the cover page provided in the previous page as your cover sheet for the
assignment you will be submitting and ensure that all the details are accurately filled. All
assignments should have the submitted with the above cover page which is properly
filled.
2. Attach the assignment brief as the first section of your assignment (Including the
assignment criteria, summative feedback from and grading rubric).
3. Use an appropriate word processing software to develop your assignment.
4. Use A4 size pages for your assignments.
5. Use font size 11 if you are using Arial font and font size 12 if you are using Times New
Roman font for the body of your assignment.
6. Use font size 13 (bold) if you are using Arial font and font size 14 (bold) if you are
using Times New Roman font for Main headings. For Sub-Headings use font size 12
(bold) if you are using Arial font and font size 12 (bold) if you are using Times New
Roman.
7. Use black text on a white background. Avoid coloured backgrounds or text in a colour
other than black, unless you have special permission to use them.
8. Use 1.5 line spacing and 2.53 cm (1”) wide margins on all sides.
9. Justify your work (Ctrl+J).
10. Insert a footer on each page (except the title page) using font size 10 if you are using
Times New Roman and font size 8 if you are using Arial font. Include the following
details in the footer; Full Name, Student ID, Unit and the Page Number.
11. Avoid using page borders in your assignment body.

Important

1. All submissions should accompany a Turnitin Report. Any assignment which does not
include a Turnitin Report will not be processed for grading. You are required to attached
the Turnitin report to the end of your assignment. For this you can use file merging
option.
2. Do note that submission of the Turnitin report as an assignment will not be accepted
and will not be graded. In case a student has submitted a Turnitin Report only, without the
assignment, that student will be awarded a ‘Fail’ grade.
3. It is strictly prohibited to use texts in the form of images in your work or use text
boxes to present information other than to label a table or a figure.
4. Check the submission date of your assignment and submission instructions carefully.
Late submissions will not be accepted.
5. Ensure that you give yourself enough time to complete the assignment by the due date
and you are responsible for managing your own time effectively.
6. If you are unable to hand in your assignment on time and have valid reasons, you may
apply (in writing) for extensions stating Extenuating Circumstance to AAO.
7. For all late submissions the final grade will be capped at a ‘Pass’.
8. Failure to achieve the Pass criteria will result in a Referral grade.
9. Non-submission of work without valid reasons will lead to an automatic Failure and
you will be asked to complete an alternative assignment.
10. If you use ideas or work of other people in your assignment, reference them properly
using Harvard Referencing system to avoid plagiarism. You have to provide both in-text
citation and a reference list.
11. If you are proven to be guilty of plagiarism or any academic misconduct, your grade
could be reduced to a Fail or at worst you could be administratively withdrawn from the
course after a formal investigation.

The submission is in the form of a formal report which includes the following components:
 The key stages of project lifecycle
 A project management plan with a work breakdown structure in the form a
Gantt chart
 A completed project Logbook
 A written account of a performance review

The recommended word limit for the report is 4000 - 5000 words, although you will not be
penalised for exceeding the total word limit. You are required to make use of headings,
subheadings as appropriate. Your research should be referenced using the Harvard
referencing system. Please also provide a bibliography using the Harvard referencing
system.

Theme

‘Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave


ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the
workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.’
(World Business Council for Sustainable Development).
Businesses worldwide have increasingly embraced the concept of Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) as a means to develop and adopt sustainable practices and
approaches in their business operations. It is a multifaceted concept that encompasses
many different aspects ranging from philanthropy, ethical responsibilities and
environmental considerations.
Most recently, in response to maximising stakeholder value and expectations, the strategic
benefits of CSR have seen many companies having a competitive advantage. Together with
the rise of globalisation, companies now employ CSR managers, experts and consultants to
produce comprehensive CSR policies and programmes, to give them a competitive edge
and build stakeholder trust and loyalty.

Scenario

You have joined John Keels Holdings as a Management Trainee. As a part of your job role
your supervisor has assigned you with a task of compiling a portfolio of evidences
addressing current trends influencing CSR to enable John Keels Holdings to identify better
CSR projects for the next financial year.

Assignment activity & Guidance

For this task you have been asked to conduct a small-scale business project, in the form of
an investigative case study, addressing trends currently influencing CSR which is to be
presented as a business case for management to enable them to determine better CSR
projects for the next fiscal year.

The project will involve investigating the trends currently influencing CSR. This will be
presented to your line manager as a business case with recommendations as to best CSR
trends that can be adopted by John Keels Holdings based on the findings, followed by a
performance review in which you will need to reflect upon the project in relation to your
own personal and professional development. To ensure the project is managed effectively
you will complete a project logbook as you progress through the project (Project log book
is provided in the appendices of the assignment brief).

In order to conduct you project successfully you will need take the following steps:
Step 1 – Understanding Project Life Cycle

1. Identify and evaluate the importance of different stages of project lifecycle in managing
your project successfully.
2. Determine the factors that you should consider when compiling your project plan.
3. Critically evaluate the research methods and strategies that can be used to gather the
required information and data for the project. Examine the importance of identified
research methods and strategies towards to success of the project assigned to you.
4. Critically evaluate the project management process and project plan you have decided
for your project.

Step 2 – Project Management Planning

Devise a detailed project management plan to map out how you intend to schedule for
monitoring and completing the project aims and objectives:
 Begin with the scope. What activities and tasks as defined in your project must
be done in order to make the project a success?
 Identify aim, objectives, deliverables, quality, risk, communication resources and
research methods that you intend to use.
 Provide details of activities to be carried out across project lifecycle
 Create a work break down structure and a Gantt chart to monitor the activities
to be undertaken.
 Justify your approaches/selections on the created project management plan.

Step 3 – Implementing the Project Management Plan

1. Implement your project management plan. For this you are required to;
 Devise a short questionnaire/ or interview questions to collect data related to the
topic provided.
 Research on CSR practices of several organisations to identify the trends.
2. Collate your research and analyse your findings. The findings of your project need to
be presented in the report.
3. Provide a justification as to how project objectives are met through the conclusions and
recommendations drawn from the data analysis and findings.

Step 4 – Reflective Practice

Complete a performance review to critically reflect upon the research findings and project
management process and outcomes in terms of your own personal and professional
development. Do note that the review should critically reflect areas such as the value of
undertaking a business project and managing a project in meeting project objectives and
your own learning and performance.
