LESSON

Lesson 6: Preparing Parts for Sewing

Sorting / Bundling is any method of systematically arranging objects, and has two
specific but distinct meanings: order: organize objects in a sequence ordered by
some criterion; categorize: group items with similar properties.

The sorter sorts the designs according to size and style in garment factories, and
creates bundles of them. This step requires a great deal of precision, as making
bundles of patterns which are not matched can cause serious problems.
Specifications on each box include the type , size and label attached to it.

For beginners/learners the following steps maybe adopted:

1. Put these in a bag.

2. Fuse a piece of fabric large enough for all your interfaced pieces then
cut.
3. Tie all the pieces together and check seam allowances in all garment parts.
4. Use 1/8” nips to mark your notches. Don’t waste time cutting diamond shapes.
Nips are more accurate and less likely to fray or weaken the seam.
5. Check parts if cleanly cut.
6. Match cloth to the patterns and check number of pieces needed.
7. Check and remove unnecessary pins.
8. Check pattern marks if properly transferred to the garment parts.
9. Collect all things you’ll need to sew the sleeping garment: zippers,
thread, buttons, snaps, hook and eye, and garter bundle with the
pattern and put in a bag.
a. Back and front bodice b. Sleeves
c. Facings d. Pockets
e. Back and front pants
