IN PERSON COURSES

Demystifying Talking Therapies

3 X 2 hour sessions.

• Developed in collaboration with HSE Psychologists, this course


makes everything about Talking Therapies understandable.

It helps you:

 Understand the different types of Talking Therapies,


 Learn how to search for, and request access to, HSE Talking
Therapies (or fund Talking Therapy privately),
 Find and vet a therapist, and
 Manage the therapist-client relationship.

Location: Recovery Village, Killadreenan, Co. Wicklow

Boost Your Resilience


• 3 X 2 hour sessions
• Resilience involves successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life
experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioural
flexibility.
• In this course, you will learn practical skills to become more resilient to
life’s difficulties and adversities.

Understanding Anxiety
• 4 X 2 hour sessions
• This course will help you gain knowledge about why we experience
anxiety and can teach you coping strategies to break anxiety cycles and
manage anxiety in your life.
• It draws on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural
Therapy.

An Introduction to Trauma Informed Care

• 3 X 2 hour sessions.

• Co-delivered by a mental health professional and ARCHES staff, this


course explains what Trauma Informed Care is, why it is important, how
it is provided, and its values.

• It looks at the shift in focus from “What is wrong with you?” to “What
happened to you?” and “What is strong with you?”.

Willow for Family, Friends, and Supporters

• 5 X 2 hour sessions.

• Facilitated by a HSE Social Worker and an ARCHES staff member,


Willow explores identity and self-care when supporting people in your life
who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

• The course is called Willow as the Willow branch is a metaphor for the
need for supporters to be flexible but not to break.

It examines:

1. What to expect from mental health services,


2. Listening and communication,
3. The meaning of being a supporter, and
4. How to be an empowering supporter.

• Willow can help supporters articulate and normalise their lived


experience; develop new coping mechanisms; and discuss ways of
helping their loved one.

Recovery in Colour 1 (The meaning of Recovery:


Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning, and Empowerment…
CHIME)

• 6 X 2 hour sessions
• This course is part of our creativity and mental health programme. It is the
first of three courses and looks at the meaning of ‘Recovery’.
• This course aims to use ‘art journalling’ (creating a personal visual journal),
painting, drawing, colour, and collage, to explore what the word ‘Recovery’
means to you.
• Note, you do not need to have completed course 1 to attend course 2.

Location: ONLINE using Microsoft Teams.

7pm – 9pm Wednesdays 29 May, 5, 12, 19, 26 June, and 3 July

• 6 X 2 hour sessions
• This course is part of our creativity and mental health programme. It is the
second of three courses and focuses on self-care.
• This course aims to use ‘art journalling’ (creating a personal visual journal),
painting, drawing, colour, and collage, to explore ways to look after our
body, mind, and soul.
• Note, you do not need to have completed course 1 to attend course 2.

Location: Bray Primary Care Centre, Bray, Co. Wicklow.

Healthy Food Made Easy

• 6 X 2.5 hours sessions

• Run in collaboration with a dietician, this course aims to:

1. to encourage healthy eating,


2. improve knowledge of nutrition when preparing our meals at home,
3. and help people learn to cook healthy meals on a budget.

• It is evidence informed and can help you manage the impact of mental
health difficulties and medication on physical health.

Location: ARCHES Recovery College, Clonskeagh, Dublin 6.

IN PERSON SOCIAL EVENTS

Creative Café

• Supported by our creativity and mental health facilitators Lisa, Laura,


Isabelle, Cathy and ARCHES Recovery College Volunteer Margaret, this
is an opportunity to make art with our community in a way that is directed
by you.

• Exercises are facilitated each week that you can take part in if you like.

• We provide the art supplies, and a safe, welcoming, creative space and
you bring your imagination and share your art with others.

• People can join throughout the year.

• It takes place in two locations, Clonskeagh and Bray.

Location: ARCHES Recovery College, Clonskeagh, Dublin 6.

11am – 12:30pm every Thursday in April, May, and June.

ARCHES Open Day with
tea, coffee, and scones once a month

• We know going somewhere new can be daunting and scary. Come meet
us for tea, coffee, and scones to learn about our community and how we
support each other.

• Everyone is welcome, old and new attendees.

ONLINE PEER SUPPORT

ADHD and Autism spectrum Peer Support Group

• This is an online peer support group for people who identify as having
experience of challenges relating to ADHD and/or the Autism
spectrum.

• The aim of the group is to validate experiences and to give people


space for voice and narrative to be heard.

• Group members discuss and share coping strategies and provide


mutual emotional support to each other.

This takes place online 6pm – 7pm the last Wednesday of the month
throughout April, May, and June.

Next online meeting 6pm – 7pm on Wednesday 24 April.

Register with ARCHES Recovery College by phone or email to be sent a


link to join the group.
RECOVERY KEYWORKING SERVICE

• Operating from ARCHES Recovery College, Shine can offer people with
experience of mental health difficulties or their family members/
supporters dedicated one to one recovery keyworking support.

• This involves planning recovery goals, identifying community resources


(ARCHES, HSE Mental Health Services, education, social outlets, hobby
opportunities), considering your skills and strengths, and being support-
ed to take steps to achieve goals.

Typically, this takes place one hour a week on


Monday mornings and afternoons for a number of weeks.

This service is available by appointment by emailing [email protected]
