LIVING IN THE ITE ERA

1. What is technology in your own words and understanding?

 Technology, in my own words and understanding, refers to the application

of scientific knowledge and innovation to create tools, systems, and
processes that improve and enhance various aspects of human life. It
encompasses a wide range of artifacts, techniques, and methods designed
to solve problems, meet needs, and achieve specific goals. Technology
can be tangible, such as smartphones and computers, or intangible, like
software and algorithms. It plays a pivotal role in shaping the modern
world, influencing how we communicate, work, travel, and access
information, among many other aspects of our daily lives. Additionally,
technology evolves continuously, driving progress and shaping the future
as it advances.

2. Why technology is important in our daily life?

 Efficiency and Convenience: Technology has greatly improved our

efficiency and convenience in performing tasks. From washing machines
and dishwashers to smartphones and online banking, it has made daily
chores and activities more manageable and less time-consuming.

 Communication: Technology has revolutionized communication. We can

instantly connect with people worldwide through email, social media, video
calls, and messaging apps. This has facilitated global collaboration and
allowed us to stay in touch with loved ones no matter where they are.

 Access to Information: The internet and search engines have made a vast
amount of information accessible to anyone with a device and an internet
connection. This has democratized knowledge and enabled continuous
learning.

 Education: Technology has transformed education, making it more

interactive and accessible. Online courses, educational software, and e-
books provide new ways to learn, whether in traditional classrooms or
through self-directed study.

 Work and Productivity: Many industries rely on technology to improve

productivity and create new opportunities for remote work. Computers,
software tools, and communication platforms enable people to work from
anywhere, enhancing work-life balance and job flexibility.

 Healthcare: Medical technology has led to significant advancements in

diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. Medical devices, telemedicine,
electronic health records, and data analytics have improved healthcare
outcomes and accessibility.

 Entertainment: Technology has transformed how we entertain ourselves.

Streaming services, video games, virtual reality, and augmented reality
offer immersive and engaging entertainment options.

 Transportation: Transportation technology has made travel faster, safer,

and more efficient. From automobiles to airplanes and public
transportation systems, technology has revolutionized the way we move
from place to place.

 Environmental Impact: Technology also plays a crucial role in addressing

environmental challenges. Innovations in renewable energy, energy-
efficient appliances, and sustainable agriculture help mitigate
environmental issues.
 Safety and Security: Technology enhances our safety and security
through systems like surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and
cybersecurity measures. It also aids in disaster management and
emergency response.

 Innovation and Economic Growth: Technology fuels innovation and

economic growth. It drives the development of new industries, products,
and services, creating jobs and driving economic prosperity.

 Quality of Life: Ultimately, technology has improved our overall quality of

life by making daily tasks easier, expanding our horizons, and contributing
to advancements in science and medicine that extend human lifespans.

3. Define Information Technology (IT).

 Information Technology (IT) is the utilization of computer systems,

software, networking infrastructure, and other technological tools to
manage, process, store, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data and
information. IT encompasses a broad spectrum of technologies and
practices employed to oversee and leverage information for diverse
purposes, including business operations, communication, decision-
making, and issue resolution.

4. Define Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a broad term that

encompasses all technologies used to manipulate and communicate
information electronically. It combines information technology (IT) with
telecommunications technology to enable the acquisition, processing,
storage, and transmission of data and information. ICT encompasses both
hardware and software components, as well as the networks and systems
that facilitate communication.

5. What is the function of IT and ICT?

 Function of ICT
 Communication - this is the main function of ICT. It is helpful in
communicating with other people no matter where the location is.
 Data Management - through ICT, data nowadays can be managed
easily. Gone are the days when it was difficult to do data
management
 Marketing - businesses and corporations make use of ICT in
endorsing and selling their products
 Process Improvement - ICT helps in improving various processes
 Function of IT

 Capture: it is defined as a process to obtain information in a form

which can be further manipulated. This input of information may be
through keyboard, mouse, picture, etc.
 Transmit: it is defined as a process through which captured
information is sent from one system to another. This system could
be within same geographical boundary or otherwise. For example,
Radio, TV, email, telephone, fax, etc.
 Store: it is defined as a process through which captured
information is kept in safe and secure manner and, which can be
further accessed when required. For example, hard disk, USB, etc.
 Retrieval: it is defined as a process through which stored
information can be called upon when required. For example, RAM,
hard disk, USB, etc.
 Manipulation: it is defined as a process through which captured
and stored information can be transformed. This transformation
could be the arrangement of data, calculation, presentation, etc.,
For example, computer software.
 Display: it is defined as a process of projecting the information.
For example, computer screen, printer, etc.
6. What is the similarity between IT and ICT?
 Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is a broader term
for Information Technology (IT), which refers to all communication
technologies, including the internet, wireless networks, cell phones,

 ICT played an essential part in every student’s life on this days because it
makes us more productive and it helps us learn a lot. During the pandemic
times, ICT changed how education looks like. For example, the online
learning. It helped us to be safe during the pandemic. Aside from that as a
nursing student who needs a lot of books to learn which costs a lot, if we
bought or just downloaded PDF’s. Search engines helps us a lot when some
sources are not available in the library.
 ICT as a communication tool helps us to communicate immediately. Reaching
out our instructors anytime and anywhere also helps us a lot as a student.
