Statement of the problem

Most of the educational institutes of India does not have any proper interactive online college magazine through which everyone including staff members, students ,faculty and others can view the articles written by the students . Atmost ,the institutes have just provided the facility of reading the articles .The users (who have the privilege) cant rate ,like or dislike the articles or any other material provided in the magazine.But in our magazine the user will be provided with such accesses,so that they can upload ,like dislike ,rate the magazines contents.

Objective

The Online College Magazine (OCM) application enables users to set up online community, student can browse through the articles, pictures and posts. a system administrator to approve and reject requests for new post and articles lists of different categories. Thus promoting literary insight. Articles can be searched by anybody in the world. Factors behind the motivation of this system are: Also on the agenda is designing an online college magazine site for faculties to manage student and also help them online without having to visit the class physically. Our online college magazine will use the internet as the sole method for sharing new ideas to its reader all over the world. The student will be in complete control of his/her profile by using the unique username concept. Reading will be highly personalized and the post will provide at sorted by their reviews states. There will be an chat room for student as well as faculties to share there ideas. Site will provide way to download the document in different formats. But it will also block unnecessary download. This, in brief, is a description of our product which will showcase a complete reading experience in a small package. 1. 2. Not all students make it to the printed magazine. Creativity of students needs to be nurtured.

Technology Used
Operating System: Any OS with a Java VM implementation. Programming language: o JAVA EE: Java Enterprise Edition is a programming platform part of the Java Platform-for developing and running distributed multi-tier architecture Java applications, based largely on modular software components running on an application server. o HTML, XML: Hyper Text Markup Language and Extensible markup Language are the predominant markup languages for web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of textbased information in a document and to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other objects. o Any other scripting language as deemed necessary. Tools & Development Environment o DB2 EXPRESS EDITION: DB2 Database is the database management system that delivers a flexible and cost effective database platform to build robust on demand business applications. o Apache Tomcat 6.0.18 Server (minimum requirement JSE 5.0, no JDK is required only JRE is sufficient) OR WAS: IBM WebSphere application server is an application server that runs business applications and supports the J2EE and web services standards OR Sun GlassFish Application server. o ECLIPSE J2EE: Eclipse is a toolkit which is designed for the creation of more complex projects, providing fully dynamic web application utilizing EJBs. This consist of EJB tools , CMP ,data mapping tools & a universal test client that is designed to aid testing of EJBs. OR Oracle JDeveloper 11g IDE along with ADF (Application Development Framework).

Project Scope
Initial functional requirements will be: Secure registration and profile management facilities for student and teachers

Browsing through the post to see the items that are there in each category of desire. Adequate searching mechanisms for easy and quick access to particular post. Enabling technique to rate the post. guest are able to post the comment about the article Regular updates to registered users of the website about new arrivals. Secured mechanism for checking out from the Shop (Credit card verification mechanism) Updates to student about the recent activities. Uploading Most liked post in each category of products in the category like news, video picture, article etc. Provide features to chat for its registered members. Provide search engine to basically search a particular post. Feedback mechanism, so that member can give feedback for the magazine. Provide news area where various event can be notified. Provide these features also: o Discussion poll. o Word of the day. o Thought of the day. o Uploading of articles in different formats..

CONTRIBUTION OF THE PROJECT

Sales are possible even in countries printed editions would not normally reach due to high distribution costs. Circulation and distribution costs are much lower - for delivery anywhere in the world. It not only reaches a wider audience, it can get there faster. Instant market feedback. With todays technology, publishers can find out which sections are most popular and which are largely ignored. They know how much time people spend reading their magazines. Readership surveys for printed magazines are costly and time-consuming. They can provide more content - not only traditional articles but audio and video streaming as well.
