Ss3 Note On Assembly Drawing

The document discusses different types of technical drawings used in manufacturing, focusing on assembly drawings. It defines assembly drawings as drawings that show how product components fit together, and lists the typical elements of an assembly drawing like assembly views, part balloons identifying each part, and bills of materials listing the parts. It also discusses detail drawings, which contain dimensioned views of individual parts, and how assembly drawings are created by assembling parts shown in detail drawings.

WORKING DRAWING

A working drawing is a drawing that supplies

information and instructions for the manufacture or
construction of machine or structures. It is a set of
drawings that are used to described every part and
the assembly of those parts to make a machine or
mechanism, and description of those is called the
detail drawing and the assembly drawing is the
description of assembly of those parts to form the
machine or mechanism Working drawing is a set of
drawing used during the work of making a product.

Working is classified into two group

ASSEMBLY DRAWING

Assembly drawings are used to represent items that

consist of more than one component. They show
how the components fit together and may include,
orthogonal plans, sections and elevations, or three-
dimensional views, showing the assembled
components, or an exploded view showing the
relationship between the components and how they
fit together.
INGREDIENTS IN ASSEMBLY DRAWING

This is about the content of an assembly drawing,

which include:

1. Assembly views: Typically, this going to a one or

two view kind of drawing. It rare that you will
need than two views for an assembly drawing
and in fact many are shown with just a single
view
2. Part balloon: the part balloons are going to point
individual parts and called them out with a part
number.
3. The bill of materials: The bell of material is a
listing of the parts necessary one assembly
together. This will include the part number, the
name for each part, what the drawing might be,
the detail drawing number that would have that
individual part drawing, the number of the
require parts in the assembly and some other
information like the material description

TYPES OF ASSEMBLY DRAWING

There are three major types of Assembly drawings:

1. Detail assembly drawing

2. General assembly drawing

3. Installation assembly drawing

FUNCTIONS OF ASSEMBLY DRAWING

1. Show the product in its completed shape

2. Indicate the relationship of the various
components
3. Denote or call out those components by part
numbers
4. Provide assembly dimensions such as overall,
capacity, movement, and installation dimensions
5. Assembly instructions
6. Operating characteristics and instructions

EXAMPLES:
1. A detail of pulley assembly are shown. The
pulley is held in position on the bracket by the
pin from right to left. With the assembled , draw
full size, the following
i. End view from arrow Y;
ii. Plan from arrow X;
iii. Sectional front elevation on P – P

1. The diagram below shows the parts of a bevel pulley mounting bracket.
With the parts assembled, draw full scale, in first angle projection the
i. Section from elevation on cutting plane T – T
ii. Sectional end elevation on cutting plane S – S
iii. Plan
DETAIL DRAWING

Detail drawings on the other hand contain enough

information to manufacture the part as well as fully
dimensioned orthogonal views of each part, with
major information required in the manufacturing
process. Detail drawing is reverse process of
assembly drawing.

Drawings are made for manufacturing products, each

part of the product must have a drawing, these
drawing of individual parts are referred to as detail
drawing.To convert a Details drawing to an assembly
drawing we begin with the front view of the main
parts of machine and then add the rest of the parts
in sequence of the assembly. Then project the
required views from the front view.
2. The diagram below is an isometric projection of a guide bracket. In 1st angle
orthographic projection, draw the full size of the:
i. front elevation in the direction of arrow K;
ii. plan;
iii. left end elevation;
iv. sectional elevation on PP.
