 What is OPININON?
An opinion is a view or judgement formed about
something, not necessarily based on fact or
knowledge. It could also be a belief or views of a
large number or majority of people about a particular
thing or of the quality or worth of someone or
something.
“ I’m writing to voice my opinion on an issues of
great importance”.
“ The changing climate of opinion”.
“ I had a higher opinion of myself than I deserved”.
“ My president is better than yours”.

 What is TRUTH?
 Truth is a body of real things, events and facts:
actuality. A judgement, proposition, or idea that is
true. The property of being in accord with fact or
reality or in accordance with facts.
 Why TRUTH is important?
 Truth matter, both to us as individuals and to
society as a whole. As individuals, being truthful
means that we can grow and mature, learning from
our mistakes. For society, truthfulness makes social
bonds, and lying and hypocrisy break them.
 How do we know if something is TRUE?
1. A belief is true if it can be justified or proven
through the use of one’s senses.
2. A belief or statement is true if it is based on facts.
3. A belief is true if it can get a consensus or having
people agree on a common belief.
 Why is it important to distinguish OPINION
from TRUTH?
The ability to distinguish between truth or fact and opinion
helps students develop their critical and analytical skills in
both their reading and listening. It is very important to
distinguish opinion from truth as they provide conclusions
or perspectives regarding certain situations. These are also
bases for making arguments and convincing people that a
claim is true.

 Truth is a body of real things, events and facts:

actuality. A judgement, proposition, or idea that is
true. The property of being in accord with fact or
reality or in accordance with facts.
 Truth, in Metaphysics and Philosophy of language,
the property of sentences, assertions, thoughts, or
propositions that are said, in ordinary discourse, to
agree with the facts or to state what is the case.
 Truth is the aim of belief: falsity is a fault. People
need truth about the world in order to thrive. Truth is
important. Believing what is not true is apt to spoil
people’s plans and may even cost them their lives.
Telling what is not true may result in legal and social
penalties.

Remarks The lesson is delivered

Reflection The discussion about truth and opinion is very timely. There is a
need to teach what is true or not to students for them not to be
deceived or scammed.
The awareness of students about the difference between opinion and
truth is there. Yet, there is still the need to make examples that fits to
the topic and adjust to the current setting to which the applicability
of their learnings about opinion and truth are ensured.
