Persuasive Speech Outline

1) Title: Government raising the minimum wage, the worst is yet to come.

2) Specific Purpose: By the end of my speech, the audience members will join pressure groups

and support independent parties in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

3) Three Propositions:

1) Fact: Salary raises will oblige the Central Bank to print huge amount of Lebanese Liras

which will lead to a severe uncontrolled hyperinflation.

2) Value: Raising the salaries of employees who are paid in Lebanese Liras will be

considered the worst decision ever.

3) Policy: To support the impoverished Lebanese people, policy makers should search for

an alternative by forming a government that would be capable of implementing the

crucial reforms to receive support and to regain the trust of international financial

organizations and foreign countries.

4) Introduction:

1) Hook: “Our country is on a train to hell, and it is about to reach the last station,” said

Henri Chaoul, a former advisor to the finance ministry.

2) Credibility: For more than 2 years, I have been involved in the political and economic

situation in Lebanon attending political conferences, reading newspaper articles daily,

and watching political talk shows.

3) Thesis: Raising the minimum salary will worsen the situation in Lebanon and deepen the

economic crisis.

5) Organization Method: Problem–failed solution–proposed solution.

6) Conclusion:

1) Closure: Lebanese politicians are used to solving critical problems by instant short-term

plans.

2) Emotional Highpoint: We should not lose hope nor give up since this is our opportunity

to rebuild Lebanon. Change is coming, and we should be the change makers.
