SEXUAL HARASSMENT
is any form of unwelcome sexual behaviour that’s offensive,
humiliating or intimidating.
An issue in the corporate world that must be looked into
because it can create a hostile and unhealthy workplace for
the employees
What does Sexual Harassment include?
Sexual harassment can include someone:
•touching, grabbing or making other physical contact with
you without your consent
•making comments to you that have a sexual meaning
•asking you for sex or sexual favours
•leering and staring at you
•displaying rude and offensive material so that you or others
can see it
What does Sexual Harassment include?
•making sexual gestures or suggestive body movements towards
you
•cracking sexual jokes and comments around or to you
•questioning you about your sex life
•insulting you with sexual comments
•committing a criminal offence against you, such as making an
obscene phone call, indecently exposing themselves or sexually
assaulting you.
Anti-Sexual Act of 1995 or R.A. 7877
“The State shall value the dignity of every individual, enhance the
development of its human resources, guarantee full respect for
human rights, and uphold the dignity of workers, employees,
applicants for employment, students or those undergoing training,
instruction or education. Towards this end, all forms of sexual
harassment in the employment, education or training environment
are hereby declared unlawful.”
Anti-Sexual Act of 1995 or R.A. 7877
Republic Act# 7877 defines Sexual Harassment as, “Employer,
employee, manager, supervisor, agent of the employer, teacher,
instructor, professor, coach, trainor or any other person who, having
authority, influence or moral ascendancy over another in a work or
training or education environment demands, requests, or otherwise
requires any sexual favor from the other, regardless whether the
demand, request or requirement for submission is accepted by the
object of said act.”
WHY DOES SEXUAL HARASSMENT OCCUR?

It occurs due to the power struggle


between men and women as a
response to a real or imagined loss of
power or as an expression of
retaliation or a flexing of the new
power. Historically, sexual harassment
has always occurred but there used to
be no label for such behavior.

✓ It affected the individuals harassed and the persons accused, who


may be innocent. Such cases can generate costly lawsuits,
unfavorable publicity or the invasion of privacy. It can also affect
the bottom line of the employer, managers and co-workers, and
affect the entire life of an organization and its members.

Top management does not want to interfere unduly with their
employees’ personal lives and their right for privacy. Conversely, they
don’t want a workplace where employees are uncomfortable to
work.
BENEFITS OF WORKPLACE ROMANCE

1. It includes friendship, mutual support to each other at work and


other personal experiences.
2. Employees involved in a love relationship overcome rough times at
work because of mutual support and inspiration.
3. Employees likewise tend to view work as fun even when pressures
begin to pile up. Romance becomes the reason to keep their jobs.
