Detailed Lesson Plan in

MATHEMATICS V

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to:
A. Define ratio and Proportion (M5NS-IIh-122)
B. Identify the ratio of the given example. (M5NS-IIh-122)
C. solve for the missing term of the given proportion (M5NS-IIi-126)
D. Value the importance of ratio and proportion through real life word problems (M5NS-IIj-127)
II. Subject Matter:
A. Topic: Ratio and Proportion
B. Reference: Math Connection, MELC’s
C. Materials: Powerpoint Presentation, pictures, flashcards
D. Values Integration: Value the importance of ration and proportion in our daily life
III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparation
1. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning Sir!

Please have a seat. Thank you, teacher.

So, how are you this morning? We’re good. How about you teacher?

I’m also good

Who is absent? None teacher

Very good! So, we have a perfect attendance for today. Sit Properly
Before we start, I want you to be reminded first of our
classroom rules. So, give me our first rule, yes Sherlie!

Very Good! So, let me see if your following our first rule.

Now, what’s our second rule? Yes Rein! Raise your hand if you want to answer

Exactly! So, if you have questions or you want to answer, Avoid chitchatting with your seatmate
feel free to raise your hand. How about our third classroom
rule? Yes Emman!

Yes! Especially if the teacher is talking here in front. How Do not use gadget inside the classroom if not necessary
about our rule no. 4? Yes Abe
Exactly! So, what is the next rule Tintin? Respect your teacher and your classmate.

Yes! I want you to respect one another. So, are the rules Yes teacher.
clear to you?

Very Good!

2. Review
So, what was our previous topic? Yes Richard! Division of Decimals teacher

Very good! So, as a recap, divide this

Very good! So, is this clear now to you class? Yes teacher

B. Motivation
Okay now take a look at these pictures, what can you see? There are apples and boys teacher

Very good! How many apples are there? 4

Yes! How about the number of boys? 5

Exactly! Now this illustration means that there are 4 apples The boys teacher
and 5 boys. Now, which of these two sets has the higher
quantity?

Very good! How about this:

9 5
18 10
A fraction teacher
What do you see?
Yes! Because if you reduce them into its lowest form they
Exactly! Now, are they proportion to each other? 1 1
become and
2 2
Very good

C. Presentation
Now, based on this, can you guess our lesson this morning? Fraction teacher

Fraction?
A while ago we compare the apples and the boys, right? And
I ask you which of those sets has the higher quantity, so
based on that what is our topic?

Comparing fraction? Now, what do you call the term about Comparing Fraction
comparison of two quantities? And you also said a while ago
that these fractions are proportional to each other. So, what
is our topic?

Yes! Proportion and? Proportion

Very good! So, our topic for this morning is all about “Ratio
and Proportion”
Proportion and ratio
D. Discussion
How do you define ratio?

Yes! Ratio is the comparison of two quantities by an

indicated division.
Ratio is the comparison of two objects/things teacher
For example:
In a classroom MALIKHAIN, there are 9 females and 12
males. How will you compare the number of females to the
number of males in the classroom?

This is all about comparing, so you have to use…?

Very good! So, how will we write the ratio of females and
males?

Very good! That’s in colon form. We could also write them in Ratio teacher
fraction form. But how?
9:12
Exactly! We can write them like these:
9:12 – Colon Form
Or 9 3
- 9
Fraction Form 12 4¿
12 ¿

Let’s have another example:

What is it Richie?

Yes! A variety of fruits namely…. Those are fruits teacher

Very good! How many apples are there Emman? Bananas, apples, mangoes, and strawberries
Yes! How about the banana Mark Darwin? 4 teacher

Correct! Tintin how many mangoes are there? There are 6 bananas teacher

Exactly! How about the strawberries Sherlie? 5 teacher

Very good! Now let’s find the ratio in colon and fraction 3 teacher
form of the following fruits:

Very good! Now, in number 2 and 5, their ratio can be

reduced to their lowest term by dividing the numerator and
denominator by the same number or by their greatest
common factor. So, is the ratio clear to you? Yes teacher

Very good! Now let’s go to proportion. How do you define a

proportion Abe?
A proportion is a pair of equal ratios.
Exactly!
Let’s have this example

Now, give me the ratio for the 1st preparation

Very good! How about the ratio for the 2 nd preparation? 4

4:8 or
8

Exactly! Now study the two ratios, are they equal? 9

9:18 or
18
Very good! There are two ways of finding out if the ratios
are proportion or not: Yes teacher

Okay let’s have this example

2:6 = 3:9
Is this ratio proportion or not? Solve in your notebook.

7 14
Now, what if I’ll give you this = how will you find the
2 N Yes teacher. Because 2 x 9 = 18 and 6 x 3 = 18 therefore,
missing term of the given proportion? they are proportion.

Very good! Now, kindly find the missing term Sherlie?

Cross Multiply!

Very good! So, the missing number is 4.

E. Drill and Practice

Now get your math notebook and answer the following.

Let’s practice!
Tell if the they are proportion or not. Write P if Proportion or
NP if not.
___1.) 1:8 = 8:16
___2.) 3:5 = 9:10
___3.) 1:13 = 2:26
___4.) 2:5 = 3:8
___5.) 4:3 = 4:5

F. Application
Do you have any question?

Very good!
So now let’s have a group activity. Each group will be given a
puzzle. You need to assemble that in order for you to read None teacher
the word problem, then solve it there in the cartolina.
Afterwards, if your everybody is done prepare for the
presentation. Is that clear?

G. Generalization
Okay again what is ratio? Yes teacher!

Very good! How about the proportion?

Ratio is the comparison of two quantities
Exactly!
We are able to compare almost everything and anything Proportion is a pair of equal ratios
around us by using ratio. Equate it to another ratio and will
have a proportion. Now, can you apply the importance of
proportion in our everyday living? Can you name some?
In baking teacher. We use ratio in making bread, like 1 cup
of sugar you can make 30 cookies. So, we the ratio of 1:30
IV. Evaluation
A. Give the ratios of the figures below. Reduce to its lowest
term.

B. Tell if the pair of ratios is a proportion or not. Write P if

proportion and NP if not
__1.) 2:5 = 4:10 __6.) 6:20 = 3:10
__2.) 12:4 = 9:3 __7.) 16:22 = 2:4
__3.) 6:12 = 4:8 __8.) 28:3 = 21:4
__4.) 5:15 = 3:9 __9.) 12:2 = 18:3
__5.) 21:3 = 7:1 __10.) 2:18 = 3:27

V. Assignment
Okay for your assignment, find the symbol for percentage.
Study about percentage for our next lesson tomorrow

So that’s all for today.

Goodbye class!
