GENERAL

The checklist shown in this document specify items need be included in relevant submission packages for BD’s
approval and consent and are not exhaustive. Reference should be made to PNAP ADM-19 and ADV-33.

STRUCTURAL DETAIL DESIGN – SUPERSTRUCTURE

(Ref: PNAP ADM-8)

CALCULATION PART I – SYNOPSIS AND ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

A) SYNOPSIS

Shall include the statement – The structural plans are prepared based on and compatible with the corresponding
general building plans approved on ________ (date) / or submission date if approval has not been granted

A general description of:


1) the Proposed Structural System for the Superstructure and Foundation and basic anatomy of stability by
which the applied loads are transferred to the ground;
2) the aim and purpose of Design Assumptions;
3) interpretation and application of Design Method: and
4) the lateral deflection and/or acceleration of building due to wind within the limit and other types of
deformation

B) DESIGN DATA

1) Design codes and standards adopted


2) Material used for various type of structural elements; and characteristic and strength of the materials
3) Gravity loads – Dead Load, Superimposed Dead Load (including allowance for partitions, screeds, service
loads, dynamic loads, temperature loads and the like), Live Load with floor usage
4) Wind Loads
5) Soil Loads and surcharge loads (if any)
6) Fire resisting rating and concrete cover to structural elements
7) Computer program used with BD reference number, version and valid date

C) STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF LATERAL LOADS (WIND AND SOIL LOAD)

A general description of the lateral load-resisting system and mathematical modeling / Description of wind tunnel
test including methodology of testing, dynamic properties, name of wind tunnel testing laboratory, testing results
and wind loading adopted in superstructure design
1) Input
a) Structural model configuration and assumptions made with computer-generated graphics and hand
sketch showing the framing and layout of the structure, nodes and elements, joint fixity, etc.
b) Geometry and properties of the structure elements
c) A summary of lateral loads applied to the building
2) Output
a) The distribution of lateral forces on individual frames at each floor level

b) Lateral deflection of the building (max. deflection £ building height/500)
c) Resultant element forces (basic load case: envelopes of axial/bending/torsion/shear) at each floor level
d) Check overall stability of the building
e) A summary of equilibrium check on applied lateral forces and calculated reactions of vertical structural
members at foundation and other critical levels where there is a major change in structural configuration

D) GRAVITY LOAD RUN DOWN FOR COLUMNS AND SHEAR WALLS

Calculation of loads on individual elements by floors and shown accumulated loads at foundation and all floor
levels
(Note: Column/wall loads obtained by using tributary area method in the preliminary stage shall be checked
against the actual loads calculated directly from the beam and slab reactions)

E) SUMMARY OF COLUMN/SHEAR WALL LOADS

Provide Loading Schedule at


1) Each transfer level if any; and
2) Foundation level (including comparison of loadings used in the foundation design)

F) DESIGN OF UNCONVENTIONAL STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS

Including detailed design of special structures e.g. shell, long span girder, space truss, etc. and major transfer
structures

7) Protection against corrosion
8) Control Codes and Standards for construction and workmanship
9) Construction sequence of unconventional structures and/or erection methods

The above information shall be consistent with those specified in Design Calculation Part I.

TYPICAL REINFORCED CONCRETE DETAILS

The details shall include:


1) Typical reinforcement lapping/anchorage details
2) Typical extra reinforcement at opening <300 mm (Larger opening should be shown on framing plans and
details)
3) Typical location and arrangement of coupler/mechanical splice
4) Typical details of construction joint between beam/slab and column/wall
5) Typical details showing the arrangement of reinforcement in cantilevered slabs/beams projected from
different types of support
6) Typical details of minor structural elements with design loads, allowable soil bearing capacities adopted. e.g.
protective barrier, planter, fence wall, etc.

STRUCTURAL GENERAL ARRANGEMENT PLAN (FRAMING PLAN)

1) Structural system
a) Floor plans, sections and elevations showing layout, dimensions, levels and identification of all structural
frames and members of the proposed structures
b) Locations of movement joint, if any
c) Layout, setting out details, sizes and loadings allowed for corbels (e.g. bridge, escalator, etc.) and embeds
(e.g. for curtain wall etc.)

a) Diagrammatic illustration of different types of superimposed dead loads including allowance for
partitions, screeds, services, planting soil and the like

reinforcement of each structural member

transfer structure and those supporting the transfer structure. Enlarge the detail if required.

a) Plans and sectional details showing structural elements and their connections with other structural
elements at supports
b) A schedule showing sizes and grades of all steel members
c) Cover details for steel base plates per fire resistance requirements

HOARDING / COVERED WALKWAY

(Ref: PNAP APP-23 and APP-102)

The hoarding/covered walkway layout plan shall be prepared by the AP.

Role of the RSE:


1) Define materials to be used for the structural elements (see also paragraph 6 and 7 of PNAP ADV-5)
2) Determine the design loads, including DL, LL and wind load
3) Check structural element size and connections. Provide connection details.
4) Check overall stability of the hoarding/covered walkway including ground bearing pressure
5) Any obstruction to public utilities and/or traffic signs etc. and the relevant remedial measures

REMOVAL AND HANDLING OF DEBRIS AND WASTE

4) No debris or materials shall be piled up against any fence, hording, walls or claddings
5) No carting, loading and unloading of materials shall be carried out outside the hoarding

The captioned information may need be submitted in associate with the GBP for developments at Scheduled
Areas (Schedule 5 in Buildings Ordinance, Cap 123 refers) – see also PNAP ADM-16, APP-24, APP-28, APP-30 and
APP-61.
