1 – ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) for Desktop software Instructions

Before you install ArcGIS for Desktop


1. Be sure you have a stable internet connection.
2. Check the system requirements to make sure your computer has the hardware and software
required.
3. Check if your computer can run ArcGIS Desktop by using the compatibility tool provided by Esri at
this link: https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/client/standard/?apikey=50f41142-39b0-
4061-97c2-ba7b7fe43d0e&refid=1186&item=10913
a. You must at least meet the minimum requirements to use this software.
4. If necessary, install the Microsoft .NET Framework (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 or later must
be installed prior to installing ArcMap.).
a. ArcGIS Desktop requires Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.5. If a minimum installation
of .NET Framework 4.5 is not detected on your machine, the ArcGIS Desktop setup will
not proceed

Download and install ArcGIS for Desktop Student Trial


1. Double-click ArcGIS_Desktop_1081_175110.exe file you downloaded to run the installer.
2. Follow the installer prompts, we recommend the default recommendations during the installer
for most people. You can choose the Complete install when prompted.
3. After the files are installed, the Authorization Wizard will open and prompt you to choose a
product to authorize; select Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use and click the Authorize Now button
under step 2.
4. The Authorization Wizard will prompt you for an authorization, follow the instructions below to
authorize your product.
a. Select I have received an authorization file and am now ready to finish the authorization
process. Then browse for the License File.txt you downloaded earlier from box.com
b. Click Next
c. Select Authorize with Esri now using the Internet.
d. Click Next
e. You will then be prompted for the authorization info. Leave this information AS IS. If it
requires you to complete any fields, fill them in.
f. Click Next
g. Select your occupation information.
h. Click Next through the remaining pages NOT updating any of the information/fields.
i. On Authorize Software Extensions please select I do not want to authorize any
extensions at this time then select Next
j. Click Finish and your product is now installed and ready to use.
