Negative Stand

The document discusses the debate around whether the Cry of Balintawak and Pugad Lawin actually occurred. It provides reasons historians argue Pugad Lawin was not the location of the event. Specifically, government documents from the 1950s-1990s do not specify borders that include Pugad Lawin, and a linguist in the 1920s could not find the name Pugad Lawin in municipal records from 1903 and 1918. Additionally, Balintawak is considered the starting point of the revolt against the Spanish, so the name "Cry of Pugad Lawin" is incorrect as Pugad Lawin did not exist as a place until 1935, after the 1896 revolt.

The Cry of Balintawak and pugad lawin is a source of contention since historians claim it
never happened, here are some of the reasons why balintawak is not considered as a
cry spot. Andrés Bonifacio's close colleague, Po Valenzuela, stated in 1948 that the event
occurred on August 23, 1896, in Pugad Lawin.some of the apparent confusion about the
place where it happened is in part due to the double meanings of the words “Balintawak” and
“Caloocan” at the turn of the century.

.Here are some of the reasons why Pugad Lawin is not considered a "cry spot."
Government documents from 1956, 1987, and 1990 affirm the existence of
barangays bahay toro but do not specify their borders. pugad lawin is not on this
map. In the late 1920s, writer and linguist Sofronio Calderon was conducting
research on the toponym pugad lawin, and he searched through the municipal
records and the censuses of 1903 and 1918, but he couldn't discover the name.

The people of Balintawak started the revolt against the Spaniards, which is why the
name "Cry of Pugad Lawin" is incorrect. Pugad Lawin did not exist until 1935,
following the 1896 revolt. Historians argue that if a group of Katipuneros "cries" (sigaw,
hindi iyak), the guwardiya sibil will be notified, resulting in a conflict or jail..
