CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN ELECTION

Answer the following questions in your own word.

1. How do you choose the candidate you vote for?

Upon voting for a candidate, I primarily and deeply consider the
innate ability of the person in leading and serving his countrymen and
following the law. It is in our nature of perception that everyone has the
potential to becoming a candidate for a government position but if we
are bound to choose the person who’ll uphold the nation unto
progression, then, it is best to choose an individual who has the honed
intellectual ability, compassionate heart, and efficient decision-making.
The said three factors are difficult to find in one single person, yet it is
not impossible as well. Oftentimes, we choose the candidate only for the
sake of voting due to not seeing the qualities we look for in an ideal
government official among the rest. The people who participate in the
election are a huge factor or basis in choosing the appropriate candidate
for a certain position, thereby resulting somehow to a “voting-for-
compliance” mentality which contributes upon electing the “complying-
yet-unsatisfying” government official.
In overall sense, I choose the candidate I vote for through an
assessment of his intellectual capacity, emotional stability, and efficient
leadership skills regardless his financial aspects, because I am voting for
the person who can make the nation profit by his work, not someone who
can finance the people to vote for him. In terms of leadership skills, it is an
edge that a candidate has past experiences in serving a locality in order
to impose necessary precautions and elimination of orders. The global
competition risen its standards, so might as well be discrete in voting the
one who can build the nation to its due progress it deserves to cherish.
2. List 5 characteristics that you look for in a candidate (elected positions at
the national level? Why?
The 5 characteristics I look for in a candidate for elected positions at
the national level are: competitive, compassionate, fun, open-minded,
and strict.
Competitive. Having a competitive candidate for a national-level
position is an existential variable for optimization of the intellectual capital
within the country. He is able to develop strategic development in areas
that need employment to increase the gross national product or (GDP),
and close the gaps between the impoverished from attending school for
educational attainment. With this characteristic, the candidate, as a
future government official, magnetizes economic opportunities to convert
into meaningful outcomes while attaining caution on decision-making.
Compassionate. Being a compassionate candidate means having
sincere and pure intentions for the welfare of his countrymen – which
attracts the hearts of the masses. Dedication to provide assistance to
those in need; more on actions than words of promises, and integrity to his
dealings are the things that matter in this characteristic.
Fun. It is so much of luck when a candidate has this fun spirit which is
engaged with recreational activities that he may foster to everybody to
do so. It is quite appealing and refreshing that you are able to witness the
active side of a national candidate despite the serious tension in his work.
Open-minded. What I am referring to in open-minded is that, he is
open for suggestions and new discoveries or innovation within the
government and nation as the process of succeeding is dynamic. Through
this characteristic, vigorous countrymen are able to showcase their ideas
to the national level which may contribute towards developing unions of
patriotism.
Strict. In this characteristic, it does not necessarily mean being
authoritarian in nature, but being firm with the urgency of decision-making
and implementation of laws that intends to protect and fight for people
at all cost from any form of violence.
3. List 5 characteristics that you look for in a candidate (elected positions at
the local level? Why?
The characteristics I look for in a candidate for elected positions at
the local level are: innovative, hands-on, a native, compassionate and
strict as well.
Innovative. In a locality, considering its scope of governance, the
activities and implementation of rules may become stale and ineffective
as time goes by due to daily consumption and continuous violations. So, it
is better if a candidate has a vision to repair the aspects which lack
effectiveness in a period of time. Thus, this creates a set of standards
which conforms to the ever-changing society.
Hands-on. In this characteristic, such candidate is empowered to
do his duty, efficiently satisfying his constituents and subordinates with his
passion in working. Having the areas checked in terms of economic
stability and emergencies is a must to be able to keep track on the
happenings around the governed society.
A Native. This term refers to being born on certain vicinity where the
candidate has grown up to; wherein the election shall take place. It is
better to have a native candidate on a particular place in order to
identify the deficient areas to allocate specific attention and resources.
Compassionate and Strict. The same as in the national level, strict
implementation of rules and regulations must be observed in the local
level while tending to the welfare of the local unit.
4. Do you value your vote in an election in your classroom? Why?
Yes, I value my vote in an election in our classroom because being
a part of this unit means a responsibility for me to choose who I perceive
responsible enough to take charge of the group to carry out the best of its
abilities. The effectiveness of the set of officers that I voted for will reflect
on the performance of the class in the future. So, while enjoying the
opportunity to vote, I will not put it to waste just to vote-for-compliance
instead, to vote for the people who are willing to work with the class and
learn from everyone’s input.
5. VOTE Acrostic Poem

Write a poem about voting. Start each line with a letter from the word
“VOTE”.

V- Verdict of tomorrow’s chances lies within our hands,

O- Omission to vote wisely prepares a fading land,

T- Today onwards, must we hurdle for a substantial investment,

E- End the mentality that one’s vote defines the dust on the

pavement.
