What is Physical Education?

Physical Education is defined as "physical education." It seeks to improve students'


physical competence, knowledge of movement, and ability to apply these skills to a variety of
activities related to the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also boosts students'
self-esteem and broad skills, such as teamwork, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and
aesthetic appreciation. These, combined with the development of healthy values and attitudes
in PE, create a solid basis for students' long-term and life-wide learning.

Objectives of Physical Education

• develop motor abilities like strength, speed, endurance, coordination, flexibility, agility and
balance, as they are important aspects for good performance in different games and sports.
• develop techniques and tactics involved in organized physical activities, games and sports.
• acquire knowledge about human body as its functioning is influenced by physical activities.
• understand the process of growth and development as participation in physical activities has
positive relationship with it.
• develop socio-psychological aspects like control of emotions, balanced behavior,
development of leadership and followership qualities and team spirit through
participation in games and sports.
• develop positive health related fitness habits which can be practiced lifelong so as to prevent
degenerative diseases.

Physical Education in College

PE 1 ( Physical Fitness )
This subject covers both theoretical and practical parts of the Physical Education and Fitness
programme. Physical fitness and self-testing activities that focus on the development of various physical
fitness components, as well as health and skill/performance components.

Objectives:
 Participate in several fitness tests to develop and maintain a high level of physical fitness.
 Acquire and put into practice social characteristics that are essential for happiness and social life
in general.
 As students gain knowledge and awareness of rules and strategies, they will learn the
mechanical standards of basic advances.
PE 2 ( Fundamental Rhythmic Activities )
Physical movements are combined with sounds, beats, or music in rhythmic exercises. Rhythmic
activities rely on an internal or external rhythm for self-expression, exercise, physical exhibition,
socialization, and cultural expression.

Objectives:
 To learn to use the body on a whole.
 To develop coordination, control, strength, agility, flexibility, relaxation, and freedom of
movement.
 To develop an organic response to rhythm.
 To develop a vigorous vital type of body movement

PE 3 ( Individual and Dual Sports )


Individual and dual games such as athletes, badminton, and table tennis are covered in this subject. The
facilities and equipment are also included. The varied sport’s equipment, skill mechanisms, and rules.

Objectives:
 Develop the fundamental skills through participation
 Demonstrate leadership in performing the different games.
 Learn the history, rules, strategies and the players of athletics, badminton and table
tennis.
 Develop desirable social attitudes among students towards the game.

PE 4 ( Team Sport )
It includes information on the history of sports, terminology, rules and regulations, facilities and equip-
ment, and game officials. It encompasses abilities in team sports techniques and plans.

Objectives:

 Appreciate and use the ideals learned via sports engagement in daily life.
 Learn about the history, regulations, mechanics, terminologies, and other aspects of 
sports.
 Develop the basic skills of the sports.
 Apply the rules and mechanics in sports competition.

Physical Educated Person


A physically educated person is one who can do the following:
Demonstrates mastery of the motor skills and movement patterns required to engage in a variety of
physical activities.

 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics


as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities
 Participates regularly in physical activity
 Achieves and maintains a health enhancing level of physical fitness
 Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in
physical activity settings
 Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social
interaction.

A physically educated person:


 Demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement
forms

 Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills

 Exhibits a physically active lifestyle

 Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness

 Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings

 Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity
settings

 Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-
expression, and social interaction
