GENERAL
Purpose : The selector valves 918AOl and 918B01, fitted to an air compressed
system allow the selection by hand of one the two fluid flow sys-
tems.
DESCRIPTION
The selector valve type 918AOl is mainly composed of a body made of light
alloy and presenting three threaded ports on which get screwed the nipples
of connection to the piping.
Inside gets located :
- a selector disc pierced of two holes allowing the systems selection and
controlled by hand by means of the arrow knob and through the control.
- a spring which situated between the control and the selector disc main-
tains the latter resting on the o-ringslocated in the body grooves.
- a partition ensuring the selector disc guiding.
- two o-rings ensuring sealing between the partition, the body at-1 the .
selector disc.
The mechanism assembly is "protected" by an equipped cover which consists
of :
- a stop limitating to 90' the control rotation
- a plate ensuring the fixing of the unit onto airframe.
The selector valve 918BOl only differs from selector valve 918AOl by
- presence on control of ratchet mechanism precising two position of use.
Data :
Overall dimensions : 64X45X63 millimeters
Utilization fluid : air
Operating pressure : 14.504 psi. (1 bar)
Weight : 0.346 + 2 % lbs (157 g -r 2 %)

III - OPERATION
Selector valve 918AOl
The selector valve is constantly supplied in compressed air through port A;
It allows to select by hand one of the two fluid B or C flow systems.
.The manoeuvre of the arrow knob rotates the selector disc.
First position
In stop position, clockwise, the two holes of the selector disc face ports
A and B of the body. Port C is blanked and.the fluid flows freely between
A and B.

Second position
In stop position, anti-clockwise, after a rotation of 90", the two holes
of the selector disc face the ports A and C of the body. Port B is blanked
and the fluid flows between A and C.
NOTE : There is no intermediate position of utilization ensuring
the total closing.

IV.- SERVICING
A- Periodicities
- Repair and overhaul maintenance
The selector valves being classified 'according to condition' the
general overhaul should only be practiced after an incident non
repairable on shop maintenance or when 'cure date' or storage period
is over.
- Shop maintenance : trouble shooting : Refer to table hereafter.
V - REPAIR OPERATIONS
a) Replacement of the arrow knob : The operation described hereafter can
be practiced without removing selector valve from airframe.
- Withdraw blanker of the arrow knob allowing to reach the internal
screw for blocking knob.

- Take off the arrow knob after having removed the blanker and unscrewed
the central screw.
- By means of a "PHILIPPS" screwdriver, unscrew and remove the
four.screws fixing the sub-assembly plate onto equipped cap.
- Remove the plate sub-assembly and place it between the jaws of a
vice to pierce nut tapped hole so that to remove flare extremity.
- By means of a plier take off the damaged nut.
- Mount onto the plate, a new nut.
- Crimp the nut. For that, place the nuts into housing of base OMDS 211698
and by means of punch OMDS 21167 flare nutflange(Refer to Fig. here-
after).
- Place the plate sub-assembly onto the equipped cover and fix it by
means of four screws. Screw and tighten by means of "PHILLIPS"
screwdriver.
- Equipment thus assembled, add the arrow knob as soon as selector
valve is adapted onto airframe.

c) Change : O-rings of the partition, of the body, the spring and the se-
lector disc in the event of defective sealing
(on equipment which warranty has elapsed)
The operations describes hereafter must be practiced the selector valve
removed from airframe and only if the interna and external sealing tests
are defective (See Chapter "TESTING" of this manual for tests proceeding).
- Unscrew and remove the four screws equipped with washers which allow
ato separe the equipped cover assembly with the plate from the arrow
knob and the control, from selector valve body.
- Remove the spring.
- From body interior, free the partition and selector disc.
- Remove the selector disc.
- Remove from the grooves (internal and external) of the partition the
two o-rings.
- Replace imperatively these o-rings in the case of a defective external
sealing.
- From body grooves, remove the two o-rings.
- Replace imperatively these o-rings in the case of a defective internal
sealing.
- If the o-rings above mentioned (on the body) are correct, check
spring because its ageing can cause a defective internal sealing
(resting strength of disc onto the o-rings not sufficient).
. Check for oxidization or distortion.
. Check that released length of the spring to 19,2 f 0,4 milli-
meters.
Check that length of the spring under a load of 19,6 ", 0,8 N
* is : 15,4 millimeters.
. If the spring is beyond clearances, reject it.
. If the spring is within clearances, the trouble has another
origin. In this event, check good condition of glazing of
selector disc resting face ; face in contact with o-rings
on body.
. If the selector disc scratches are important, reject it impe-
ratively.

. Smear the two o-rings with graphite powder 550 and locate them into the
grooves on the body.
. Mount the o-rings (internal and external) onto the partition.
. Position the cover assembly equipped with the plate, the arrow knob
and the control onto selector valve body.
NOTE : When assembling, ensure that the arrow knob is at stop position
"clockwise".
-.
. Xount the four screws equipped with washers and block in order to fix
the body and the equipped cover.

VI - CLEANING
The metallic components removed from the selector valve should be cleaned
with trichlorethylene or equivalent product and dried with dry and clean
compressed air.
The selector valve assembly mounted it should be cleaned by means of a dus-
ter soaked into trichlorethylene or equivalent product, then dried with
a clean flufless duster.
During this cleaning, avoid any introduction of cleaning agent in the
selector valve, which could cause the elastomers damage,

VIII -.TESTING
Test equipment
Testing the selector valve 918AOl and 918BOl require :
- A compressed air source from 0 to 2 bar.
- An insulating cock
- A capacity of 1 dm3
- An Hg column
- A water tank
Operation test
Connect the unit to the compressed air source through the port indexed
A. Place the nozzles onto the two outlet ports B and C.
Selector valve 918AOl
The arrow knob is in stop posiLion, clockwise, ensure the systems A and
B communicate. After rotation of 90" in stop position, anti-clockwise,
check the systems A and C communicate.

IX - STORAGE
a) Conditioning
- If necessary, clean the selector valve (Refer to "CLEANING")
- Blank the ports A - B and C by means of red non alterable plastic
caps of appropriated dimensions.
b) Packing
- Pack the equipment in a grease proof paper or in a neuter paper,
non sealed.
- Locate the selector valve in a box made of strong cartboard at the
appropriated dimensions.
- Pad the selector valve in its packing by means of cellulose cotton
whool or synthetic hair, or any similar material.
- Place into this packing the documents following the equipment
- Place a desiccant product into this packing with a dampness indicator.
- Close the packing by means of non alterable adhesive paper.
- Siightly compress angles of packing not to damage the cover which will
come and protect it.
- Envelop the cartboard packing in a thermoweldable, transparent, water
and vapor tight plastic bag.
