Experiment No.5 Roll Crusher

1. The document describes an experiment to determine the nip angle, reduction ratio, and constants Kr, Kb, Kk for a roll crusher by crushing bricks and analyzing the products. 2. A roll crusher works by crushing particles through compression between two rolls. Data like power consumption, feed size, and product sizes are measured and used to calculate the constants based on Rittinger's, Kick's, and Bond's laws. 3. The results of the experiment will be used to determine values for the nip angle, reduction ratio, Rittinger's constant Kr, Kick's constant Kk, and Bond's constant Kb for the roll crusher tested.

ROLL CRUSHER

Objective:

To Determine
a) Nip Angle
b) Reduction Ratio
c) Kr , Kb , Kk constant for Roll crusher.

Equipment and Material:

Smooth Roll crusher, Sieve Shaker, Bricks, Weighing balance, Weight box

Theory:

 DESCRIPTION: In smooth roll crusher, two smooth crushing on parallel axis

are the working element. Typically roll can be measured in diameter. Its speed
range is 50 to 300 rpm. Feed of 12 to 75mm is acceptable and products of 12 to
1mm.
 CONSTRUCTION: Two heavy smooth faced metal roll turning on parallel
horizontal axis are the working elements. The feed is fed at the top of the
machines and product outlet at the bottom of the machine. It is primary crusher.
So it crush very hard particle like bricks ore etc.
 WORKING: It crushes the
particles by compression. The width of the roll is large so the particle turns into
fine particles. At the roll, the compression is very high. The roll makes a nip
angle at the top of the machines.
 Work Index is the gross energy
in kwh/ton of feed required to crush a very large feed to such a size that 80% of
product particle passes through 100 micron screen.

If Dp is in millimeter, P is kwh and m in tons then we have

Kb =100*10-3 * Wi =0 .3162 Wj, Wi =Work index

Nip angle: It is largest permissible angle between two tangents drown to rolls at
roll surfaces.

Procedure:
Prepare__________ of small particles of bricks as sample of feed.
Start Roll Crusher and find power consumption under no load condition with help of
Energy meter & a stop watch.
Now feed the bricks sample in the hopper & crush it.
Note power consumption under loaded condition with help of Energy meter & a stop
watch.
Also note the total time required for the crushing.
At the end, collect the product and analyze it in Sieve Shaker.

Data:

1. Radius of Roll (R) = 12.2 cm

2. Roll spacing d = Gap between the rolls /2 = __________ cm
3. Radius of feed particle
4. Density of feed (ρp) =

6. Energy meter constant 1 KWH =180

7. Time for one revolution of energy meter under no load condition =

1. Power consumption under no load condition (E1)

E1 = 3600
_______________________________________________________________________
___________________________________
(Energy meter constant * Time for one revolution of energy meter under no load
condition )

= 3600 / (180 * )= KW
2. Power consumption under loaded condition (E2)

E2= 3600
______________________________________________________________________________
____________________________
(Energy meter constant * Time for one revolution of energy meter under loaded
condition )

= 3600/(180* )= KW

3 Power required to crush brick sample W= E2 - E1 = KW

4 Feed Rate m = Kg/Sec.

5 Power required = (E 2- E 1 ) / 0.746

Feed Rate

Volume = ( π / 6) dp3

dp=_______________cm
