IP configuration
The Brocade VDX compact switches like VDX6730 have a single configurable Ethernet Interface,
Eth0, which can be configured as a management interface. A management IP might be configured
to use DHCP or it might be a static IP. These labs use Static IP configurations.
Warning
Commands on the following sections allow you to set the TCP/IP address of the switch which you
use for remote management and are usually performed over a serial connection. These are just for
your reference. Do not use these commands for this exercise.

Student Exercises
Important
Enabling/disabling Brocade VCS mode is normally performed soon after the IP address has been
set. Enabling or disabling VCS mode is disruptive as it requires a reboot, and it also causes the
default configuration to be applied. VCS mode is disabled by default. Be careful while performing
these steps. Strictly perform the steps as per the instructions. Do not disable/enable VCS after
this exercise is completed unless you are told to do so by your instructor.
__ 12. Skip this step if VCS is disabled already (you verified this in step 8 earlier in this lab).
__ a. To disable VCS on your Brocade switch, type no vcs enable and press Enter.
__ b. On the prompt to continue type y and press Enter
The switch is rebooted in stand-alone mode and default configuration is applied.
__ c. Right click the top blue bar of the Putty screen and click Restart Session (or open a
new putty session). Get back to the login prompt by logging back onto the switch again.
EXempty Note that the switch host name defaults to ‘sw0’ after the reboot.
__ d. Type show vcs and press Enter. Observe the output and note that vcs state is ‘disabled’.

Exercise 3. Zoning configuration
Requirements
Before starting this exercise, your lab configuration must be in the following
state:
• The Brocade VDX 6730 FCoE switch must be configured
• Windows hosts and Storwize V3700 must be connected to the FC switch
Exercise instructions
Part 1: Zoning configuration: Introduction
During the exercise, on your Brocade FCoE switch, you will create one zone per HBA, where one
HBA of your host Windows server is in a zone with your Storwize V3700 node, and one HBA of your
partner's host Windows server is in a zone with your partner's V3700 controller.
__ 1. Record both team’s PWWNs. Both teams should note each other’s PWWN details as well.
Host name Alias Member PWWN Switch FCoE interface
WINT1 WINT1_CNAP1 VDX6370-1 10
WINT1_CNAP2 VDX6370-2 10
WINT2 WINT2_CNAP1 VDX6370-1 20
WINT2_CNAP2 VDX6370-2 20
Note
FCoE maps are used to configure FCoE properties on interfaces. An FCoE map is a placeholder for
an FCoE VLAN and a CEE map.
Once the FCoE map is assigned onto an interface:
• The corresponding FCoE VLAN 1002 is applied to the interface.
• The corresponding CEE map is applied to the interface.
• The FCoE/FIP VLAN classifiers are applied to the interface. In short, the interface
becomes capable of carrying FCoE traffic.
Only a single FCoE map is allowed, which is created automatically with the name “default.”
By default, the FCoE VLAN associated to the FCoE map is FCoE VLAN (1002) and the CEE map
that is associated is the default CEE map (also called “default”).
Note
Any interfaces that have been configured with FCoE default map will show up under Enabled on the
following interfaces. Currently, default map is applied to port 10 and port 20 (performed during
exercise 2 step 33) hence these interfaces are listed in the above output.
__ 4. To assign default FCoE maps to physical 10 GbE interfaces, execute the following steps:
__ a. Configure terminal (This will enter the configuration mode.)
__ b. Interface TenGigabitEthernet x/0/y (Where x is the rbridge-ID of your switch and y
is the physical port you want to configure.)
__ c. fcoeport default
__ d. Exit (This will take you back to the config prompt.)
__ e. Repeat steps b, c, d, and e for the other ports as well.
__ f. End (This will exit the config mode.)
Note
All teams need to configure FCoE Ports 10, 20, 11, and 22 on their switches (one port for your
team’s Windows host, one port where your team’s V3700 is connected, one port for the partner
teams windows host, and one port where your partner’s V3700 is connected on the switch that is
assigned to your team.
EXempty __ 5. Run the show cee maps command once again to confirm that the 10 GbE ports are applied
with FCoE port default mapping.
__ 6. Execute the show fcoe login command to confirm all of the four WWNs have logged on to
the FCOE ports.
Note
In the following steps, both Team1 and Team 2 will create four aliases each on their respective
switches. (One for each of the two Windows host CNA ports and one for each of the two V3700
nodes that are connected to the switch assigned to your team).
__ 7. Execute the show name-server detail command to list the WWNs of the devices and
targets available on the VDX fabric.
EXempty
__ 8. Create aliases for the four device WWNs. To create aliases, enter the following commands:
__ a. configure terminal (this will take you to the config prompt).
__ b. zoning defined-configuration alias your_alias (refer to the table in step 1 of
this exercise for your_aliases).
__ c. member-entry xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (refer to the table in step 1 of this exercise for
WWN).
__ d. Repeat steps a, b, and c to create aliases for all four WWNs and then execute the
following command to save changes to configuration
zoning enabled-configuration cfg-action cfg-save
__ e. end (This command will exit from the config prompt.)
__ 9. Execute the following command to verify that all aliases exist in the defined configuration.
show running-config zoning defined-configuration alias
Note
In this section, each team will define two zones on their respective Brocade FCoE switches.
• Between your Windows server and your V3700.
• Between your partner team’s Windows server and partner team’s V3700.
EXempty __ 10. Execute the following commands on your switches to create a new zone to the defined
configuration:
__ a. configure terminal (This will take you to the config prompt.)
__ b. zoning defined-configuration zone V3700Tx_WINTx (Where V3700Tx_WINTx is
the zone name; replace x with your team number.)
__ c. member-entry V3700Tx_Nodex;WINTx_CNAPx (Where V3700Tx_Nodex and
WinTx_CNAPx are the alias you have created for V3700 and Windows host that is
assigned to your team.)
__ d. zoning defined-configuration zone V3700Tx_WINTx (where V3700Tx_WINTx is
the zone name, replace x with your partner team number).
__ e. member-entry V3700T1_Nodex;WINTx_CNAPx (Where V3700Tx_Nodex and
WinTx_CNAPx are the alias you have created for V3700 and Windows host that is
assigned to your partner team. Note that the two aliases are separated by a semicolon.)
__ f. exit (This will take you back to the config prompt.)
__ g. zoning enabled-configuration cfg-action cfg-save (This will save your newly
created zones).
__ h. end (This will exit you from the config mode.)
__ 11. Verify that the two zones that were just created exist in the configuration by examining the
output of the following command:
show running-config zoning defined-configuration zone
Note
The above sample output shows that there are no existing configurations on the switch. Ideally, you
should see the same at this point.
__ 13. List the existing zones in the defined configuration by executing the following command:
show running-config zoning defined-configuration zone
__ 15. Verify that the zone config you just created exists in the defined zone configuration. Run the
following command:
show running-config zoning defined-configuration cfg cfg_name
(cfg_name is the configuration defined by you in a previous step.)
__ 17. To verify that your zone config is now active, run the following command:
show running-config zoning enabled-configuration cfg-name
__ 18. Verify contents of your active zone config; run the following command:
show running-config zoning enabled-configuration
__ 19. To make your configuration persistent across switch reboots, execute the following
command and respond with a Y on the prompt to continue.
copy running-config startup-config

Exercise 5. V3700 storage provisioning using iSCSI
Requirements
Before starting this exercise, your lab configuration must be in the following
state:
• Host has connectivity network connectivity to the V3700 Ethernet ports 1
and 2 on both nodes.
Introduction
iSCSI is an IP-based standard (defined by RFC 3720) for data transport of
hosts accessing storage devices by carrying SCSI commands over IP
networks.
In an iSCSI environment, the iSCSI host sends requests to an iSCSI target.
The host contains one or more initiators that attach to an IP network to
initiate requests to and receives responses from an iSCSI target. Each
initiator or target has a unique iSCSI name that is known as an iSCSI
qualified name (IQN) or an extended-unique identifier (EUI).
The Storwize V3700 nodes function as iSCSI storage (or targets) for iSCSI
attached hosts; no Fibre Channel SAN storage is required. On the other
hand, if external Fibre Channel SAN storage systems are attached to the
Storwize V3700 system, then the iSCSI support enables these external
storage systems to provide storage to iSCSI hosts as well.
Each node of the system that has one or both of its Ethernet ports that are
configured becomes an iSCSI target.
To transport SCSI commands over the IP network, an iSCSI driver must be
installed on the iSCSI host and target. The driver is used to send iSCSI
commands and respond through a network interface card (NIC) or an iSCSI
HBA in the initiator and the target hardware.
During this exercise you will perform the following tasks:

EXempty __ 33. Verify, in the detail disk output, a type value of iSCSI for the disk. Furthermore, the disk LUN
ID should match the SCSI ID value you noted previously for the volume from the system
GUI. Close the command prompt window.
At this point, you have configured one path between the iSCSI server and the Storwize
V3700 system node1 port 1. Should node1 become unavailable due to planned or
unplanned outages, the system will automatically fail over to the iSCSI IP address to node2
port 1. Consequently MPIO support is not required.
MPIO support for redundant paths is useful to protect host I/O against network connectivity
failures.

Part 1: Clear zone configuration on Team2 Brocade 6730 switch
Note
This exercise is designed to be performed by the partner teams as one single team. The steps in
this section are performed on only the switch assigned to Team2.
When adding a switch that is already configured for zoning, you must clear the zone configuration
on that switch before connecting it to the zoned fabric.
Both of the lab Brocade 6730 FCoE switches are physically connected on port 23 and port 24;
however, the ports are currently disabled and therefore virtually not connected at this point.
EXempty __ 5. After port 23 and 24 are enabled on both of the VDX switches, execute the following
command to view ISLs on both of the VDX switches:
show fabric islports show fabric isl
__ 6. To verify that both the Brocade VDX switches are now part of the same fabric, examine the
output of the following commands from both the switches (you should be able to see the
same set of WWPN /fcid on both):
show name-server brief show name-server detail
Below is sample output from the two switches at this point. Note that the fcids are the same,
which makes it clear that the two switch fabrics have merged.

__ 24. From the Define Additional Mapping window, select the following values:
__ a. Host group host: Select Host AIX Tx (replace x with your team number).
__ b. Logical unit number (LUN): Leave at default value.
__ c. Logical drive: Select Team1_Aix.
__ d. Click Add.
__ e. Click Close.
__ 25. From the Mapping View window, verify that LUN is correctly mapped to the server.
Note
On your server, verify that the LUN you have mapped has been discovered.
__ 26. Log on to your AIX host using PuTTY and Issue the AIX lsdev -Cc disk command to list
the disk configuration before and after the AIX device discovery cfgmgr command.
__ 27. The lsdev -Cc disk command output identifies an MPIO FC DS3500 device. Note the
hdisk number: __________________
__ 28. To display more information about the discovered disk, issue the following SDDPCM
commands:
mpio get config -Av hdiskX
(Where hdiskX is your MPIO DS3500 disk device.)

__ 29. Execute the lspath command to identify number of paths for hdisk 1. In the below screen
capture, MPIO identifies two paths for the hdisk1 because this host is zoned for two paths
access in our environment.
__ 30. Create a volume group that is named TEAMx_VG using the MPIO hdisk. Issue the following
make volume group command:
mkvg -y TEAM1_vg hdiskx
(Where x is your hdisk#.)
__ 31. To list the physical volume, the volume group where your DS3524 disk is, issue the following:
lspv lsvg
lsvg -n hdiskx
(Where hdiskX is your MPIO DS3500 disk device.)
EXempty __ 32. To create a logical volume and file system for the COLORVG volume group, issue the
following command (this is one long command):
crfs –v jfs –g TEAMx_vg –a size=256M –m /TEAMx_VGMP –p rw
(Replace x with your team number.)
__ 33. After the file system is created, list the volume group.
Lsvg –l TEAMx_vg
(Where hdiskX is your MPIO DS3500 disk device.)
The volume group now has a logical volume (lv00) and a mount point of TEAMx_VGMP, but
the logical volume state (LV STATE) is closed.
__ 34. To verify the file system /dev/lv00, enter the following command:
lsfs
