Part 3: Configuring switch mode

Network OS supports two operational modes for Brocade VDX switches, stand-alone mode and
Brocade VCS fabric mode. When a switch boots up, it goes into one of these modes by default.
All of the Brocade VDX compact switch models, including VDX 6730, boot up in stand-alone mode
by default. Stand-alone mode is a restricted feature mode in which the switch supports only legacy
features that were available in Network OS v2.1.1, with the exception of IP static routes and in-band
management. All other Layer 3 features, or any other features that are introduced in Network OS
v3.0.0, are not available in stand-alone mode.
VDX switches in VCS mode attempt to form ISLs (inter-switch links) by default. However, if the
chassis is not connected to another switch, it forms a “single node VCS fabric”.

Important

Enabling/disabling Brocade VCS mode is normally performed soon after the IP address has been
set. Enabling or disabling VCS mode is disruptive as it requires a reboot, and it also causes the
default configuration to be applied. VCS mode is disabled by default. Be careful while performing
these steps. Strictly perform the steps as per the instructions. Do not disable/enable VCS after
this exercise is completed unless you are told to do so by your instructor.

__ 12. Skip this step if VCS is disabled already (you verified this in step 8 earlier in this lab).
__ a. To disable VCS on your Brocade switch, type no vcs enable and press Enter.
__ b. On the prompt to continue type y and press Enter
The switch is rebooted in stand-alone mode and default configuration is applied.

__ c. Right click the top blue bar of the Putty screen and click Restart Session (or open a
new putty session). Get back to the login prompt by logging back onto the switch again.

EXempty Part 2: Configure FCoE interfaces

Note

FCoE maps are used to configure FCoE properties on interfaces. An FCoE map is a placeholder for
an FCoE VLAN and a CEE map.
Once the FCoE map is assigned onto an interface:
• The corresponding FCoE VLAN 1002 is applied to the interface.
• The corresponding CEE map is applied to the interface.

Exercise 5. V3700 storage provisioning using iSCSI

What this exercise is about

This exercise gives you a hands-on opportunity to merge Brocade VDS
FCoE SAN fabric.

What you should be able to do

After completing this exercise, you should be able to:
• Access the V3700 storage from your lab Windows host using iSCSI

Requirements
Before starting this exercise, your lab configuration must be in the following
state:
• Host has connectivity network connectivity to the V3700 Ethernet ports 1
and 2 on both nodes.

Introduction
iSCSI is an IP-based standard (defined by RFC 3720) for data transport of
hosts accessing storage devices by carrying SCSI commands over IP
networks.
In an iSCSI environment, the iSCSI host sends requests to an iSCSI target.
The host contains one or more initiators that attach to an IP network to
initiate requests to and receives responses from an iSCSI target. Each
initiator or target has a unique iSCSI name that is known as an iSCSI
qualified name (IQN) or an extended-unique identifier (EUI).
The Storwize V3700 nodes function as iSCSI storage (or targets) for iSCSI
attached hosts; no Fibre Channel SAN storage is required. On the other
hand, if external Fibre Channel SAN storage systems are attached to the
Storwize V3700 system, then the iSCSI support enables these external
storage systems to provide storage to iSCSI hosts as well.
Each node of the system that has one or both of its Ethernet ports that are
configured becomes an iSCSI target.
To transport SCSI commands over the IP network, an iSCSI driver must be
installed on the iSCSI host and target. The driver is used to send iSCSI
commands and respond through a network interface card (NIC) or an iSCSI
HBA in the initiator and the target hardware.
During this exercise you will perform the following tasks:

EXempty __ 33. Verify, in the detail disk output, a type value of iSCSI for the disk. Furthermore, the disk LUN
ID should match the SCSI ID value you noted previously for the volume from the system
GUI. Close the command prompt window.
At this point, you have configured one path between the iSCSI server and the Storwize
V3700 system node1 port 1. Should node1 become unavailable due to planned or
unplanned outages, the system will automatically fail over to the iSCSI IP address to node2
port 1. Consequently MPIO support is not required.
MPIO support for redundant paths is useful to protect host I/O against network connectivity
failures.

Part 4: Configure multiple iSCSI target ports for MPIO

During this part of the exercise, you will add the iSCSI IP address of node1 port 2 of the Storwize
V3700 system to the iSCSI initiator to enable connectivity to both ports of node1.
__ 34. Double-click the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator icon on the Windows server desktop. Click the
Discovery tab, and then click Discover Portal.
__ 35. In the Add Target Portal pop-up window, enter the iSCSI IP address that is configured for
V3700 node 1 port 2 in the IP address box and click OK.
__ 36. Click the Targets tab and notice that adding port 2 of node1 does not introduce a new
target.
Note also that neither Rescan disks in Disk Management nor Scan for hardware changes in
Device Manager introduces a new instance of the Storwize V3700 system presented
volume.

Part 5: Exercise summary

At the end of this exercise, your lab configuration should be in the following state:
• Both Brocade VDX switches are part of the same fabric.
You have now completed all the steps of his exercise.

Exercise instructions
Part 1: Clear zone configuration on Team2 Brocade 6730 switch

Note

This exercise is designed to be performed by the partner teams as one single team. The steps in
this section are performed on only the switch assigned to Team2.
When adding a switch that is already configured for zoning, you must clear the zone configuration
on that switch before connecting it to the zoned fabric.
Both of the lab Brocade 6730 FCoE switches are physically connected on port 23 and port 24;
however, the ports are currently disabled and therefore virtually not connected at this point.

__ 1. To clear zone configuration on VDX6730-2(Team2) switch, open a PuTTY session to it and

execute the following sequence of commands.
__ a. Configure Terminal (This command takes you to the config mode prompt.)
Zoning enabled-configuration cfg-action cfg-clear
__ b. No zoning enabled-configuration cfg-name
__ c. End (This command exits you from the config mode prompt.)
__ 2. To confirm that no zone config is still active, run the following command:
show running-config zoning enabled-configuration
__ 3. Enable port 23 and 24 (to be performed on both of the Brocade VDX6730 switches).
__ 4. Execute the following commands to enable the ports:
__ a. Configure Terminal (This takes you to the config mode prompt.)
__ b. Interface tengigabitethernet x/0/23 (where x is the rbridge-ID of your switch)
__ c. No shutdown
__ d. Interface tengigabitethernet x/0/24 (where x is the rbridge-ID of your switch)
__ e. No shutdown
__ f. End
__ g. Repeat steps a, b, c, d, e, and f on the other brocade VDX switch.

EXempty Part 4: Verify LUN mapping from the AIX server

Note

On your server, verify that the LUN you have mapped has been discovered.

__ 26. Log on to your AIX host using PuTTY and Issue the AIX lsdev -Cc disk command to list
the disk configuration before and after the AIX device discovery cfgmgr command.

__ 27. The lsdev -Cc disk command output identifies an MPIO FC DS3500 device. Note the
hdisk number: __________________
__ 28. To display more information about the discovered disk, issue the following SDDPCM
commands:
mpio get config -Av hdiskX
(Where hdiskX is your MPIO DS3500 disk device.)

__ 29. Execute the lspath command to identify number of paths for hdisk 1. In the below screen
capture, MPIO identifies two paths for the hdisk1 because this host is zoned for two paths
access in our environment.

__ 30. Create a volume group that is named TEAMx_VG using the MPIO hdisk. Issue the following
make volume group command:
mkvg -y TEAM1_vg hdiskx
(Where x is your hdisk#.)

__ 31. To list the physical volume, the volume group where your DS3524 disk is, issue the following:
lspv lsvg
lsvg -n hdiskx
(Where hdiskX is your MPIO DS3500 disk device.)
