What Is Your View of Employee Discipline and Why Is It Important in The Workplace?

An effective employee discipline program benefits both employers and employees by helping employees improve and be more productive members of the workforce. It creates a more productive and less stressful work environment when everyone understands conduct expectations. Managers should encourage ethical behavior by rewarding employees when they see it, holding workshops on ethics, and leading by example with their own ethical conduct. While financial benefits attract and retain talent, companies unable to provide them can offer non-monetary benefits like flexible schedules, time off, training, tuition assistance, recognition programs, and mentorship to engage employees and improve skills.

What is your view of employee discipline and why is it important in the

workplace?

An effective discipline program is beneficial to both the employer and employee. It

helps employees correct any shortcomings with the goal of becoming a valuable,
contributing member of the workforce. discipline will lead to a more productive and less
stressful atmosphere. The purpose of discipline in the workplace is among others to
ensure that all employees are treated equally and to put codes of conduct into place so
that employees know what is expected of them. A disciplined work environment
facilitates management as well as employees being on their best behavior. Discipline
also contributes to a peaceful workplace. When no specific guidelines regarding conduct
are in place it often leads to uncertainty and an impulsive and erratic workplace.
Discipline also ensures safety in a workplace. When management complies strictly with
a company’s protocol regarding discipline, it will set an example for employees who will
then know precisely what is expected of them and what the penalty would be should
they transgress. It is useful to view the matter of discipline as having several
components, issues that must be addressed before administering discipline, methods of
disciplining, including progressive discipline, how to provide employees with an
opportunity to respond to discipline, such as a grievance program and laws relevant to
termination. If employees believe they are being treated fairly, they are much more
likely to accept the consequences of their actions. Consistent and fair discipline will also
help to prevent successful claims of discrimination or other unlawful conduct.

2. How can a manager encourage employees to adhere to standards of

performance and behavior in the workplace?

As with most relationships, the work relationship between the employer and employee
should function on the basis of trust and understanding to maintain discipline.
Managers can encourage it by showing gratitude when they see it. If managers want
their staff to behave ethically then they must understand that it starts with them. It is
important for managers to focus on accomplishing company goals while developing
good relationships in the workplace but it is equally important to focus on ethical
conduct among employees. Managers should also hold regular workshops on ethics and
demonstrate how employees can solve problems ethically. If managers really want to
promote ethical behavior, they need to reward it when they see it.  If a manager
catches an employee doing something right, they should stop and thank them.
Managers could also implement a system where employees can anonymously submit
examples of their colleagues behaving ethically. If managers hold themselves to a high
standard of ethical behavior, then they have credibility when they expect the same
thing from their employees.  If everyone is on the same page it becomes easier for the
team as a whole to adopt the same types of ethical behaviors. When managers are
respectful to their staff, they are able to develop a trusting relationship that encourages
ethical behavior.  Therefore, managers need to consider the company’s decisions to
hire, train, promote, and pay employees.  They also need to make sure that what they
are asking of their employees is reasonable.  When managers show that they are
invested in the success and well-being of their employees, it creates a company culture
that is built on ethical principles.

3. Why are some companies willing to give benefits more than what is
required by law? If a company cannot afford to give financial benefits, what
non-monetary benefits can a company give its employees?

Employees show greater enthusiasm and appreciation towards non-monetary

incentives. Offering benefits to your employees is important because it shows them you
are invested in not only their overall health, but their future.

A solid employee benefits package can help to attract and retain talent. Benefits can

help you differentiate your business from competitors. Employee benefits can improve
your company’s bottom line by engaging employees to participate in wellbeing
programs. Healthier employees mean reduced healthcare costs for your organization.
Employees with fewer health risks experience fewer sick days, fewer trips to the doctor,
and spend more time working in your organization, bringing their best selves to work
every day.
A company can give a non-monetary compensation include benefits, flex-time, time
off, free or discounted parking, gym membership discounts, retirement matching,
mentoring programs, tuition assistance, and childcare. Any benefits plan that is
designed to address a specific need and is often provided in a non-cash form for its
employees. Having an effective rewards and recognition program for your employees
can be a great means for an incentive too. Recognition for employees who have been
working hard can mean a lot to them.

Providing training plans or making accredited courses or workshops accessible can be a

huge help to your employees. It can improve their skills and make them feel like you
care about their personal growth. One great personal reward would be to offer your
guidance and mentorship to your employees. The best employees would always be
willing to learn more from the company's leaders, and getting that would be a
great empowerment and experience for them. Help your employees by sharing your
experience and tips and tricks that they can use at work and be successful.
