BALALA Formative Assessment No. 4

This document discusses a student assignment on the mechanical properties of AB materials. It includes instructions to calculate stress, strain, and modulus of elasticity given the dimensions and force applied to a sample. It also asks the student to explain why mechanical properties are important for design and processing of AB materials, how inelastic materials differ from elastic materials in their response after removing a load, and the importance of determining the bioyield point of a material.

ABE 313: Properties of AB Materials

Student Name: Balala, Jerard M. Yr./Prog./Section: 3BSABE-B

Formative Assessment No. 4

Mechanical Properties of AB Materials

Instruction: Answer the following and submit not later than the deadline. This will serve
as an assignment. Show all calculations.

1. Compute the stress, strain and modulus of elasticity when a 50 mm long by 20

mm (0.020 m) diameter sample compresses 0.50 mm upon loading by a 20 N
force.

2. Why do we need to know the mechanical properties of AB materials?

We need to know the mechanical properties of AB materials in order to design,
create, and apply the most appropriate way if it is capable from different forces
when undergo with harvesting, transporting, and processing. Also knowing the
mechanical properties of AB materials can maximize the efficiency, when it
undergoes through processing.

3. What will happen to inelastic AB materials upon removal of the load? How it
differs to linear and non-linear elastic materials?
After removal of load from the inelastic AB materials it will not retain to the original
formation thus it will have deformation. While linear elastic material has a capacity
to stretch and retain to form without deformation, non-linear elastic material has
also a capacity to stretch it will undergo with deformation but it will retain to the
original form.

4. Explain the importance of determining the bioyield point.

ABE 313: Properties of AB Materials

The bioyield point of materials helps to determine the maximum point of material
where there is no force applied but it continues to deform. This is an important
parameter in the time of storing the materials.
