Castelleted Beams

Castellated beams and columns are structural elements with openings cut into the web portion. For beams, this increases the depth by 50% compared to the original I-beam section. Common opening shapes are circular, hexagonal, or octagonal. Castellated sections provide strength and weight benefits but have reduced fire resistance and increased stress concentrations. They are fabricated by cutting standard sections and rewelding the halves with an offset to deepen the member.

CASTELLATED COLUMN AND BEAM

CONCEPT : C BEAMS

Beams which are provided with opening in the web portion are nothing but castellated beams
. Generally the opening provided for castellated beams are circular shaped or hexagonal shaped ADVANTAGES OF CASTELLATED SECTIONS:
openings, which are dispersed at regular intervals on the web portion of castellated beam . • Castellated beams still have their own advantages that make many architects and engineers prefer
• these are made from hot rolled i-section which is being cut along certain pattern and then both them.
halves are shifted and re welded such that its depth increases . • For instance, even after all these years, castellated beams offer a desirable weight to strength ratio
• The beam section obtained is 50% deeper than the parent i-section that is 1.5 times the depth of at a very affordable cost. They have also been the standard for so long that they are easy for any

• long span structures as well as vibration characteristics are served best using castellated beam. • C-beams have also become a major part of the architectural aesthetic in America and throughout the
world. Using them in construction virtually guarantees that your final building will look classy and
elegant to everyone who sees it!
