TEENAGER’S IDOL

One of Jack Kerouac, an American novelist, famous quote is “you are the equal of the idol
who has given you your inspiration”. This quote totally potray the situation that teenagers nowadays
face. For teens, idol is the figure that is able to provide inspiration about life that empowers an
emotional touch that can provide reinforcement. Usually, teenagers are influenced by idols through
their daily routines, speeches and even the clothes that they wear. Due to that, teenagers need an
idol that can motivate them to be a better person throughout their lives. In current generation,
Muhammad Ali, an American professional boxer, is the most notable idol for majority of teenagers
because he fought for human right, had an inspiring sense of humanity and had a personality of
never giving up.

Muhammad Ali is a person who stood for human rights. His actions as a conscientious
objector to the war made him an icon for larger counter culture generation, and he was a high-
profile figure of racial pride for African-American during the civil rights movement. As a Muslim, Ali
was initially affiliated with Elijah Muhammad’s Nation of Islam (NOI). Ali promoted Islam and
defended black rights in the country. In addition, Ali incorporated strategies, tactics and world view
into his operation that would later be adopted by much wider constituencies. The Civil Rights
Movement was distinctly positive and remarkably broad-based. In short, Muhammad Ali’s fights for
right for citizenship was really admiring.

Secondly, Muhammad Ali is admirable by teenagers due to his great sense of humanity. He
spent the whole last decades all his life working for charitable caused around the globe, where he
was the famous and beloved men. Although he had been suffering Parkinson’s disease during his old
days and even lost the ability to talk, he does not make his physical disability as an excuse to stop
him in helping people. To illustrate this point, Ali has stood against the war in Vietnam and his effort
as a young black man winning fights against a racist white system. These examples justify that Ali
was a hero for millions of teenagers around the world as a result of his heart-warming sense of
humanity.

Next, Muhammad Ali is indeed the teenager’s best idol as he always displayed his
personality of never giving up upon everything. As a professional boxer, Ali encountered many
matches that of course resulted to great pain and was even admitted to the hospital. However, he
never stopped and kept on fighting until his retirement on June 26 1979, due to his health condition.
Ali believed that he should never give up as he realised that he could become a champion of the
world and he said “I am going to work for that.” For instance, Ali once estimated that over his
professional carrier, he took more than one million bows to his head, many of which completely
knocked him off his feet. Yet he was considered The Champ, the most celebrated boxer. Ali was truly
an idol in teenager’s heart due to his tenacity and grim persistence in his career.

In a nutshell, the award of best teenager’s idol definitely goes to Muhammad Ali. As he
fearlessly shout out for justice in human rights and ignoring all bad consequences that he may
encounter, many teenagers will be influenced by his action. Also, he motivates teenagers out there
with his concern and kindness to human beings despite having his own personal problem. Plus, being
a strong-will person, he never gives up even though there are many obstacles in his career pathway,
thus inspiring teenagers to be as successful as him. In conclusion, having Muhammmad Ali as an idol
is a must to teenagers out there as are many good values in him.
