Course Name CDI 1 - Fundamentals of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence


Course Description This course focuses on the implementation of the Rights of the Accused and Victims Welfare. This also covers the different
procedures in Crime Scene Investigation and Police Intelligence and the application of the different Fields of Forensic Sciences
or Criminalistics in Criminal Investigation and Intelligence. Likewise, this involves the application of the principles of Criminal
Law, Evidence, and Procedures and other related laws.

Program Outcomes 1. Conduct criminological research on crime, crime causation, victims, and offenders to include deviant behavior;
2. Internalize the concepts of human rights and victim welfare;
3. Demonstrate competence and broad understanding in law enforcement administration, public safety and criminal justice;
4. Utilize criminalistics or forensic science in the investigation and detection of crime;
5. Apply the principles and jurisprudence of criminal law, evidence and criminal procedure;
6. Ensure offenders’ welfare and development for their re-integration to the community.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes 1. State the foundation or basic principles of criminal investigation;
2. Explain the legal sanctions &/or requirements that should be observed in conducting investigation of criminal cases;
3. Identify, enumerate & discuss the elements, tools & phases of criminal investigation;
4. Discuss the standard processes & techniques of identifying, tracing, locating, & apprehending suspects including the
systematic method of collecting & preserving evidence; &
5. Appreciate the importance of utilizing scientific knowledge in the field of criminal investigation and intelligence for
successful detection & prevention of crimes.
6. Discuss the legal process of investigation and intelligence gathering.
