MGT 212 | Assignment 1

Summer 2020
MGT 212: Organizational Management
Assignment 1/ Exam 1
Instructor: Dr. Ummaha Hazra
Total points: 40 Due on: August 9, 2020

We are passing a difficult time and you all know that I completely empathize with your situation.
However, no situation can be a reason to plagiarize. The questions are conceptual and, in my
opinion, there is no need to use external sources. Slides, lectures and the book should be enough.
However, if you use any secondary source of information even the textbook, you MUST cite it
properly in the main body of the text and give proper references at the end of the document.
Plagiarism is absolutely unacceptable because frankly speaking it is stealing. Even if you write
someone else’s idea in your own language but you do not cite the author(s), then that is also
plagiarism. MS Word has in-built capability to help the writers follow proper citation styles.

Go to ‘References’ – Select ‘APA’ style (usually it is the default) – Select ‘Insert citation’

Go to ‘Add new source’

MGT 212 | Assignment 1

Insert all the information in the required fields and MS Word will create the citation in the body
of the text. Be careful to select appropriate ‘Type of Source’ such as book, journal article,
newspaper article, report, web page etc.

Select ‘Bibliography’ – Select ‘References’ – MS Word will create the list of references at the
end of the document.

Citation and referencing can be done manually as well. See the following link about how to use
APA style of referencing for further knowledge –

https://www.mendeley.com/guides/apa-citation-guide

Now you have a lot of information about proper referencing. So, if I see plagiarized answers
even after providing such detail guidelines, there will be SEVERE penalty.

Other Important Directions

1. Prepare a separate answer sheet. Do not start writing in the question paper.

2. You have to answer all the questions.

3. Have a title page with your name, ID, course code and section.

4. The maximum page limit for each answer is 2 pages. Do NOT exceed that.

5. The font you should use is ‘Times New Roman’.

6. The font size should be 12 points.

7. The line spacing should be 1.5 lines.

8. Maintain a margin of 1 inch on all sides.

9. In Google Classroom, you MUST upload ONE MS Word document for your full answer
script. Do not upload multiple files.

10. The questions are situation based. You are being asked to do an analysis using the
information given in the question and the concepts that were discussed in the lectures. Do
not just repeat word by word whatever is written in the questions/ articles or shown in the
related video. I know it ALREADY. I have written the questions myself, right? So, I
want you to use the information in the question as evidence or example in relation to the
concept that you think is most suitable for explaining the situation.

4. In 2013, a clothing factory in Bangladesh collapsed, killing 1,138 people. Some 27 global
brands, including Walmart and Benetton, were using the factory. One year on, these two
corporations were amongst 22 of the 27 yet to contribute towards a compensation fund
created for this cause. Factories in developing countries face similar problems all the time,
but such instances may go unreported. Bangladesh alone houses around 5,000 garment
factories. Many of these factories are converted from residential buildings, with no fire
escapes or alarms. The scale of the problem means reforms may well take time.

Where will you put the RMG buyers in the above figure and why? Do you think that
corporations that buy to developing countries have a responsibility of care to the workers on
those sites? Why or why not? Relate your discussion with the position that you have given
these corporations in the above figure. (3+7) = 10
