Marcelo, Zentrill Ann G. Romualdo, John: Gr. 4 - When Technology and Humanity Cross

Technology has become an inevitable part of society, bringing convenience and connecting people. However, too much technology can also be problematic, as it raises ethical dilemmas. Three key technologies used in the Philippines are television, mobile phones, and computers. While these devices are widely adopted, they also potentially make children lazy and expose users to uncontrolled content. Another emerging technology is robotics, which poses safety and emotional challenges if robots become sentient beings deserving of rights. To ensure well-being and human dignity amid technological progress, human rights must guide science and remain core to development.

Human rights in the face of scientific and technological advancement are critical factors in one’s
journey toward eudomania or the good life. Protecting the well-being and upholding the dignity of the
human person must be at the core of continued scientific and technological progress and development.

Multiple international statues, declarations, and decrees have been produced to ensure well-
being and human dignity.

A human rights-based approach to science, technology and development sets the parameters
for the appraisal of how science, technology and development promote human well-being.

Human rights should be integral to the journey toward the ultimate good. They should guide
humans not only to flourish as individual members of society, but also to assist each other in flourishing
collectivity as a society.
