Symptoms
The NetWorker System Recovery Wizard window displays the following messages:
Restore failed with status: 0x80004005. Please see the ossr_director.raw for more detais.
ossr_director ERROR: Failed at VSS PreRestore call, error=0x80042415: Restore failed because a
disk which was critical at backup is excluded. To continue you need to either remove the disk from
exclusion list or detach it from machine or clean it using DiskPart utility, and then retry restore. If
you cannot clean or detach it then change the disk signature using DiskPart command UNIQUEID
DISK ID.
Cause
Restore failed because a disk which was critical at backup was excluded.
Resolution
Option 1: To remove the disk from the exclusion list, set the "p flag at the recovery wizard screen.
Please refer to the documentation from the NetWorker Administration Guide. This option will cause
all disks on the system to get reformatted " even the non-critical disks.
Option 2: Otherwise, after you boot into the WinPE, use the diskpart utility to clean each of the
disks that are listed as excluded. This will solve any disk collision issues with the recovery system.
Here is a pointer to online documentation for diskpart.exe which is available in the WinPE image:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766465(v=ws.10).aspx
Option 3: Detach excluded LUNs from the recovery system before restarting the recovery.
