Basic Techniques of foot ball
The basic techniques of football are: kicking, receiving and dribbling.

1. Kicking
- Effective kicking is the most important quality of a good football game.

- Kicking means controlled passing and shooting.

- There is little difference between passing the ball to a teammate and shooting at a goal. The most common
kinds of kicking are:

A. Kicking with the inside of the foot

This type of kicking is the most accurate and the most commonly used.

B. Kicking with the outside of the foot

This kind if the kicking is used to pass a ball if it is difficult to pass using the inside of the foot. This
kick is also important to pass to the side and to curve the path of the ball. It is used for short passes.

C. Kicking with the full instep/ top of the foot

This type of kicking is the most power full and used for long pass on the ground or in the air.

2. Receiving/Trapping
- The more quickly and accurately you can control the ball, the more chance you have of passing it
accurately.

- The most common methods of receiving/ trapping the ball are:

A. Receiving with the inside of the foot - This method of receiving can be used for ground balls.

B. Receiving with the sole of the foot - This kind of receiving can be used to received ground balls and
balls coming in air.

3. Dribbling
- If you have good dribbling ability you will be a key member of your team.

Goal keeping technique
- The objective of goal keeping is to prevent goals.

- It is done by either clearing it or catching it.

System of playing foot ball


- The system of play is the method of arranging players in the field.

- In a football game, players are arranged in three groups in the field.

They are: 1. Defensive player - back players, who stop or mark an opponent attack.

2. Midfield players - are mid player.

3. Offensive player - attacking player, front players,

CHAPTER 6
ATHLETICS
Athletics is an activity which includes track and field events. It can develop a sound healthy body as well
as strong and coordinated muscle movements and build a positive attitude towards life.

- Athletics :-

1. Relay Running
- This event originated in the U.S.A, the 1st recorded relay taking place in an athletics meeting at the
University of Pennsylvania in 1893 G.C.

- Relay running is a team work, in which four runners participate in a competition. The purpose of the race is
to exchange the baton between four runners and having a result as one athlete is running in the race.

Basic rules
1. The baton must be passed inside the 20 meter passing zone. If it is not passed in this exchange zone the
team will disqualified.

2. The baton must be carried in hand throughout the race.

3. The baton dropped outside the Zoe must quickly be picked up by the runner who dropped it.

4. A baton dropped inside the zone must be collected by another.

-The outgoing runner may being a running pattern 10 meters before the official passing zone. This area is
known as international zone/ pre- zone.

The baton
- The baton weight 50gms with 38mm diameter and 25- 30cm length. It can be made of wood or metal.

Baton handling and exchange


- The commonly accepted types of really in Olympic game are 4x 100 meters and 4 x 400 meters relay.

- The universally accepted method of exchange the baton is the alternate method. During this exchange the
baton passes from right to left hand and from left to right hand.

- Two methods can be used for the actual baton exchange:

1. The "upward" exchange - in which the receiver reaches back with the elbow slightly bent and, with the pal
of the hand facing downwards.

2. The "downward" exchange- in which the receiver reaches back with a fairly high and straight arm and, the
palm of the hand facing upwards.

- The baton exchange is non - visual, i. e. the outgoing runner does not ' watch' the baton into his/her hand.

2. High Jump/ scissors style


- The purpose is to pass over obstacle. To pass over high obstacles good run and take off are very important.

- The high jump involves:

- Approach run

- Take - off and

- Clearance

- Between two upright poles is 4 meter a part.

Basic rules
There trials are allowed at each height.

. Those who clear the height are given another 3 chances at height slightly higher, and so on.

. The jumper goes out of competition when he/she had three consecutive misses at any height.

The winner is the one who has jumped the highest height.

3. Shot Put
- This event was begun in the Irish Tailtean, Geames in 1829 B.C.

- Unit the 1869s a two- handed throwing technique was employed, but latter the Cambridge one - hand style
became the standard of throwing. This method of throwing featured in the 1st English championships
organized by the new Amateur Athletics club in 1866.

- Shot put has its own circle in which the throwers apply movements. It is not allowed the shot- put outside
the given circle.

Rules
1. A shot is putted not thrown

2. A shot is putted in a circle of 2.135 meter in diameter.

3. A putter cannot step outside the circle, if he/she steps outside the circle, if he/she steps outside the circle,

the throw does not count.

4. All puts must land within a bounds area.

- The technique in shot putting is the same for women and men.

- In international competition women out a shot 4kg and men put 7.26 kg.

-Putting shot is a combination of balance, speed control, power and timing.

-There are two techniques of shot put. They are

- Glide and

- Rotary

- The shot put techniques contain the following phases:

1. The grip/ preparation

2. Glide /Rotary

3. Put/ Throw

4. Recovery
