STEP Standard 7 – Reflecting on Instruction to Improve Student

Progress
Improved Practice Based on the Unit of Study

Plan to Reach the Goal

Short-Term Goal
1.
Work on differentiating instruction. I have been talking to my mentor teacher on
ways that she differentiates her instruction
and have been writing down her tips and
tricks. I have also been researching different
techniques on teaching blogs I have found
online.

2.
Learn how to plan for missteps in a lesson. This is a goal that will be reached with time.
My mentor teacher has explained to me that
in teaching, you will learn what to do when
things go wrong. She told me that sometimes
you even have to scrap a whole lesson if you
see it is not reaching the students. I will
become better at gagging this with more
experience.

3.
Work on classroom management, in regard to I have had difficulty with finding ways to take
students talking out of turn. control of the classroom. The students often
talk out of turn or when I am talking. I have
started watching personal development videos
to help find strategies that will work for me.

Long-Term Goals: Teachers who are dedicated to their profession and to improving the lives of
students will continually look for ways to grow and learn. The best way to ensure that learning is
prioritized is to create a long-term goal. Create one long term goal that is specific and
measurable. Make sure to discuss the following:
Long-Term Goal: My long-term goal is to stay diligent with my teaching. I never want to
become complacent in my teaching.

resistant to change in the classroom. I do not
want to become like this because I think that a
good teacher needs to be someone who can
change with the wind and be able to adjust
accordingly. This will help me be the best
teacher I can be for my future students.

times a year. It is easy to fall into a slump and
not want to strive for your best. So, I expect
to accomplish this goal whenever I feel
myself slipping from my best self.
