Personal reflection:
Dallas brass Does an excellent job at demonstration the traits of good musicianship.
This Album would be great to use to demonstrate and discuss how to proper balance and blend
as an ensemble. The group is very aware of their ensemble and makes appropriate adjustments
to ensure every note is heard, while also ensuring that the music is being played in a musically
appropriate and interesting matter. The Musicians demonstrate mastery over their instrument.
They play with a tone that is rich, warm and full and their rhythms and entrances are always
precise and accurate.
Listening Guide:

Track 12: St. Thomas (4:00)

Time Listen For...

0:08 Well articulated accents being used on a unison rhythm throughout the ensemble,
why still carefully balancing the chord ensuring each degree within it is heard.

0:18 Appropriate drop to subito piano, followed by an allied swell and crescendo
throughout the ensemble

0:32 Precise rhythms are used throughout this section so much so the trumpets notes
are nearly indistinguishable with the marimbas in terms of attack, and duration.

0:47 Great blend and balance between soloist and ensemble. Every chord tone can be
heard but the soloist is still present in the foreground.

1:04 Very precise clean entrances made throughout the ensemble. Each entrance picks
up where the last left off.

1:33 Excellent example of full piano playing. The ensemble maintains a rich full sound
while playing soft enough for a marimba to solo over them.

1:57 Trombonist shows mastery of the instrument. The Trombone solo is rich, full and
clear throughout.

2:13 Very good ensemble communication. Ensemble stay together well matching in
rhythm articulation and overall tone.

2:48 The ensemble performs an incremental crescendo during a mini shout section.

3:12 Another example of how the ensemble can prolong a clear sustainable crescendo
after a subito piano.

3:36 Lead trumpet plays melody alongside the rest of the ensemble in a rather high
register while maintaining a round, rich, & full sound.

3:40 Another demonstration of clear articulate entrances split between the different
sections of the ensemble.

3:57 Last chord is Clear and resonant, rings out in unity.
