A RESEARCH PROJECT REPORT ON

“Comparative Study of Fans”

Bachelor of Business Administration


(Batch: 2016-18)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Bajaj and Orient are two big industries whose fans are popular among
the people. Bajaj fans were incorporated on 14 July 1938 as Radio
Lamp Works Limited under the Indian Companies Act, 1913 as a
Public company limited. On 1 October 1960 it was renamed to Bajaj
Electrical Limited. Orient fans were started in 1954 and now it has
gained much popularity among people.

The main objective of this research project is to compare both the


companies’ fans in the market.

For this a survey was conducted in the market of Rohini region where
different shopkeepers were asked about their favourite brand, its
quality, services and which brand they liked the most.

First the survey was conducted than analysed and interpreted. After
this analysis, conclusion was drawn followed by some suggestions
and recommendations.

The research has given the researcher an inside of the consumer


market and an opportunity to use the theoretical knowledge in live
Survey.
CHAPTER-1
(Introduction)
Bajaj electricals and Orient electric are the two leading brands in fan industry. Both are
gaining popularity because of their world class fans. There is a tough competition
among them.

ABOUT THE COMPANIES

ajaj Electricals Ltd is an Indian consumer electrical equipment manufacturing

B company based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is a part of the ₹380 billion (US$5.6


billion) Bajaj Group. It has diversified with interests in lighting, luminaries,
appliances, fans, LPG based Generators, engineering and projects. Its main domains
are lighting, consumer durables, engineering and projects. Lighting includes lamps,
tubes and luminaires. Consumer durables include appliances and fans. Engineering
and projects include transmission line towers, telecommunications towers, high mast, poles
and special projects, and others include die casting, wind energy & solar energy. Some
notable project includes lighting works at the Commonwealth Games stadium and the Bandra
Worli It has 19 branch offices spread in different parts of the country with a chain of about
1000 distributors, 4000 authorised dealers, over 400,000 retail outlets and over 282 Customer
Care centres.

rient Electric is an Indian consumer electrical equipment manufacturing company

O based in New Delhi. It is a part of the Orient Paper & Industries , and which itself is
a subsidiary of the $1.6 billion CK Birla Group. Formerly it was known as Orient
Electricals, and in April 2014 it changed its name to Orient Electric. It
manufactures and export fans, lighting products and consumer appliances. It
exports to over 30 countries and has retail footprint in over 1 lakh (100,000) retail
outlets with 3,500 dealers and distributors within India. Their manufacturing facilities are
Based in Faridabad and Kolkata and they have 153 authorized service centres across the
country. Orient Electric has been ranked amongst the top 20 brands in India across all
categories in a poll conducted by Super brands India among 17,000 consumers and marketing
professionals. It has been awarded with the Super brand status for fans for 2014–15.

 India is a tropical country and thus needs fans


 The fan market in India consist of ceiling fans, table fans, pedestal fans, wall
fan and exhaust fans and manufacture special purpose fans for industrial
applications
 The Indian market is estimated at 2.5 million fans per month and it is growing
at about 10% p.a.
 The distribution of fans in India is also well developed with over 1,00,000
selling points for fans
 Bajaj and Orient are the leading companies producing world class fans

(Research methodology)
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

For carrying out the comparative study of fans in the market, direct survey was conducted in
the market where different perceptions were found as well.

For comparative study of fans, direct interview was also taken with buyers visiting stores.
Apart from this Retailer behaviour was also noted on the basis of the sale of fans. A survey
was conducted in which eight questions were asked from every shopkeeper. Every
shopkeeper gave different views and opinion on different types of fans of both the
companies’ i.e Bajaj electricals and Orient electric.

In this survey various question were asked from the shopkeeper on fans. The shopkeeper
answered all the question of the survey according to their taste and preference.

After conducting the survey the data was collected and was analysed by all the members of
the groups and after that data was interpreted and suggestions and conclusions were made by
all the members.

LIMITATIONS OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT

 The period of the project was not sufficient to study all the factors in deep
 Visiting various places for the study consumed lot of time
 Many dealers/retailers showed less interest in providing information and
haven’t cooperated
 Some of the confidential information like sales figure, credit period was
not disclosed by the competitors
 The sales figure given by the visited dealers should ne approx.
CHAPTER-3
(Data Analysis and
Interpretation)
The explanatory final descriptive analysis of the data collected was compiled in
the form of graphs through MS-EXCEL 2010. The result of the analysis is
shown below-

1) Which brand is preferred by you more?

Data Interpretation:
The above pie chart shows the preference of the shopkeeper. Different shopkeepers
have different choice of their brand. According to the survey conducted 55%
shopkeepers prefer Bajaj whereas 45% shopkeeper prefers Orient. From this it is
interpreted that Bajaj fans are more in use than Orient fans.

2) What is your reason for choosing the brand?


Data Interpretation:
The above pie chart shows the reason of choosing the brands. They have different
reason for choosing different brands. 45% shopkeepers say that they have used both
brands and out of that they have choose the right brand and 55% shopkeepers says
that they have always used one brand and not used the other brand. From this it is
interpreted that most of the shopkeeper have used one brand and they have not tried
the other brand.

3) What do you think about the pricing of the company you’ve


chosen?

Data Interpretation:
The above pie chart shows the views of shopkeeper on the prices of the fans of both
the brands. 65% shopkeepers say that the prices of the fans are fair and they even
provide quality to them. 30% shopkeepers say that the prices provided to them are

overpriced. They are not satisfied with the prices. 5% shopkeepers say that the prices
are under-priced. Thus, it was interpreted that majority of shopkeepers are satisfied
with the price of the fans provided by the company.

4) How satisfied are you with the performance of the brand you’ve
chosen?

Data Interpretation:
The graph shows the satisfaction level of the shopkeepers with respect to the
performance of the brand they have chosen. 10% of the shopkeepers are unsatisfied
with the performance of the brand they have chosen. 15% of the shopkeepers are very
much satisfied with the performance of the fans and 25% shopkeepers are not fully
satisfied as well as fully satisfied. They have neutral reaction towards the performance
of the fans of their respective brands.

between the two brands?

Data Interpretation:
This question was asked from those shopkeepers who have used both the brands.
36.4% shopkeepers say that orient fans are better than bajaj fans. 27.3% shopkeepers
say that bajaj fans are better than orient fans. 36.4% shopkeepers’ say both the brands
are good and both the brands fulfil their needs. Thus it is interpreted that maximum
shopkeepers like both the brands as compared to those shopkeepers who are liking
individual fans brand.

these two brands?
Data Interpretation:

This question was also asked to those shopkeepers who have used both the brands of
fans. 90.9% shopkeepers say that the cost of the fans is similar in both the fan brands.
63.3% shopkeepers’ say that qualities of fans are similar in both brands as well as the
service of the fans is similar of both fan brands. 27.3% shopkeepers have their own
aspect of similarities. They have their own opinion. Thus, from this it is interpreted
that majority of shopkeepers are finding cost the main aspect of similarity between
both the fan brands.

7) Anything you disliked in these fans or any suggestions you want


to give?
Data Interpretation:
This question was asked to all the shopkeepers about their dislikes as well as
suggestions about the fan brand they are using. Every shopkeeper has their own point
of view regarding the respective brand. Some disliked the quality of fans. Some
disliked that sometimes the company do not provide delivery on time especially
during the seasons of fans. Some shopkeepers gave their own suggestions like the
company should keep a check on the latest technology as well as the need of people.
Also, they should provide that type of fans which are very much needed and not that
which is of no use for people for a particular area. Thus, it was interpreted that though
people disliked some factors but they are satisfied with both the brands.
CHAPTER-4
(Findings and
Conclusion)

After analysing and interpreted all the data the conclusion was drawn.
55% shopkeepers prefer bajaj than orient which is preferred by 45%
shopkeepers. 55% shopkeepers says that they have always used one
brand and not used the other brand and 45% shopkeepers say that they
have used both brands and out of that they have choose the right
brand. 65% shopkeepers say that the prices of the fans are fair and
they even provide quality to them. Majority of shopkeepers are
satisfied with the price of the fans provided by the company. 15% of
the shopkeepers are very much satisfied with the performance of the
fans and 25% shopkeepers are not fully satisfied as well as fully
satisfied. They have neutral reaction towards the performance of the
fans of their respective brands. 36.4% shopkeepers say that orient fans
are better than bajaj fans. 27.3% shopkeepers say that bajaj fans are
better than orient fans. 36.4% shopkeepers’ say both the brands are
good and both the brands fulfil their needs. 90.9% shopkeepers say
that the cost of the fans is similar in both the fan brands. 63.3%
shopkeepers’ say that qualities of fans are similar in both brands as
well as the service of the fans is similar of both fan brands. Majority
of shopkeepers are finding cost the main aspect of similarity between
both the fan brands. Every shopkeeper has their own point of view
regarding the respective brand.
CHAPTER-5
(Suggestions and
Recommendations)

The following are the important points of considerations for the


research and development, Bajaj fans and orient fans.
There is still some room for improvement of service in Bajaj fans as
compared to orient fans, the management should consider this to
make the product more competitive.

The packaging of orient fans should also be improved, which is in the


good interest of the dealers. Both the companies should provide the
information about their new product to the dealers so as get an idea of
advanced orders.
