Discussion
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are gadgets
to protect workers from injury or illness caused by
having contact with the dangers/hazards in the
workplace whether they are chemical, biological, (Students are listening attentively)
radiation, physical, electrical, mechanical and
others.

These are the common Personal Protective

Equipment gadgets:

Hard Hats/ Helmets - Safety Helmets will protect

the user’s head against:

 Impact from objects falling from above, by

resisting and deflecting blows to the head.
 hitting fixed dangerous objects at the
workplace,
 Lateral forces - this would depend on the type
of hard hat selected. Traditional hard hats are
not designed to protect users from impacts to
the front, side or back of the head.
 open flame, molten metals splash, electric
shock, high temperature – this would depend
on the standard of the hard hat selected for
example a standard hard hat will not protect
against an electric shock.
Gloves - Work gloves are personal protective
equipment worn during work projects that cover
and protect the hands from the wrist to the fingers.
Work gloves are meant to save the user's hands
and fingers from unnecessary wounds such as cuts,
blisters, splinters, skin punctures or heat and
chemical burns. Gloves vary in type depending on
the work environment.

Goggle - Safety goggles are a type of personal

protective equipment (PPE) that is worn on the eye
for its protection. Essentially, goggles are safety
glasses that fit tightly to the eye, often with suction,
and are secured with a strap that goes around the
back of the head. Goggles may be used to protect
the eye against particles, chemicals, water, and
glare from things striking the eyes.
There are different types of goggles that are
designed to give protection in specific types of
work. For example, there are specialized blowtorch
goggles, laboratory goggles and goggles designed to
be worn while using power tools.

Mask - A facemask is a loose-fitting, disposable

device that creates a physical barrier between the
mouth and nose of the wearer and potential
contaminants in the immediate environment.
Facemasks are not to be shared and may be labeled
as surgical, isolation, dental or medical procedure
masks. They may come with or without a face
shield.
Facemasks are made in different thicknesses and
with different ability to protect you from contact
with liquids. These properties may also affect how
easily you can breathe through the facemask and
how well the facemask protects you.

Work boots - A pair of safety shoes is for foot

protection at workplaces. It prevents from getting
foot injuries due to slippery surface, heavy falling
or rolling objects, sharp piercing edges, pinch
points, rotary machinery, hot objects, loops of
ropes under tension, splinters, electricity,
chemicals or even bad weather etc. Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires
the employers to ensure that the employees use
protective footwear while working in the areas
where there are dangers of foot injuries.

Protective clothing - is clothing designed to protect

either the wearer's body or other items
of clothing from hazards such as heat, chemicals
and infection. Also, special clothes may protect the
working environment from pollution and/or
infection from the worker, for example in a
microchip factory.

REMEMBER
1. Personal protective equipment
should be taken cared as of the
other tools and equipment. Wipe
your helmets, gloves, safety shoes
before keeping it.
2. It should also be cleaned, kept in
proper tool rack/ cabinet.
3. It should be stored in dry places so
that it will not have mold build-up.
4. Over-all suites should be washed
regularly so that perspirations and
other dirt will be washed clean.

J. APPLICATION
Let’s have an activity. This game called “IGUHIT mo,
HUHULAAN ko”. The class will be divided into 2
groups. Again, the right side will be the group 1, and
my left side will be the group 2. Each group must
have their leader or representative. I will show
them pictures and they will draw it on board on all
the member will guess on what is it.
Note that the leader is not allowed to write the
word.
Yes, sir!
Are my instruction clear?
Lets Play! (Students are answering)

K. GENERALIZATION
What is personal protective equipment?

Why do we have to learn the different types of

personal protective equipment?
