STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“If you think you are worth what you know, you are very wrong. Your knowledge
today does not have much value beyond a couple of years. Your value is what you
can learn and how easily you can adapt to the changes this profession brings so
often.”

These are the words of Jose M.Aguilar, which have led a ceaseless impression on my mind.
Whenever I cease by to reflect on my ken of knowledge, I think that how minimal I have learned
and that an enormous, unknown and fascinating wealth of knowledge lies before me, yet to be
sought. A fascination for Technology motivated me to take up Electronics and Communication
Engineering as my undergraduate course. While my undergraduate study I have learned many
things, but I have also realized that I need to learn more to advance frontiers in my field of interest.
With an intense urge to dredge into this challenging field, the eagerness to experiment and explore
new vistas, I strongly believe that an under graduate degree does not fully prepare me to face the
current challenges in research and industry. A graduate study is a fitting sequel to undergraduate
study that stands as a next avenue in my quest for knowledge and to bring out my forte to the fore,
thus leading to a wider range of career objectives.
The heart of the modern world is in computer science. It plays a pivotal role in human advancement
and gives new direction to the technological evolution. Additionally, the society depends heavily
on the breakthroughs in computer science engineering. Applications embody satellites, next
generation mobile phone, air traffic control, the Internet and much more. Today computer science
is technologically advancing at a faster rate than any other field. I genuinely believe that by joining
the brigade of researchers, I may contribute to the overall growth of the sector. I have always been
enthralled by the way we use computers and the devices everybody uses. Naturally, I have an
inherent affinity for computers. With this background, I decided that a master's course in computer
science would be the ideal thing for me.
My aspirations have kept me in good stead in shaping my academic career. For under graduation
I choose Vellore Institute of Technology, for its ingenious faculty, convenient amenities and
demanding grading procedures. My undergraduate life was amazing and served as my stepping
stone to higher studies. I spent a lot of time learning programming in C and C++ and also took
courses like ‘Microprocessors and Controllers’ and ‘Introduction to MATLAB,’ which further
developed my interest towards Computer Science. Along with good theoretical knowledge, I have
secured more than 85% in all the lab practical. I was keeping track on recent trends, advancements
and modern techniques in these fields. In addition, aware of the fact that the world today runs on
computers and thus programming knows how a requisite is, I completed certification courses that
have made me proficient in the eternal programming languages as C and Java along with the
development environment MATLAB and Xilinx ISE softwares.
My quest to think outside the box and innovate came to the fore during my internship with
Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) in december’16. I utilized my coding skills in
Verilog to design a Vedic multiplier as a project in a team of 4. Each member had different roles
and tasks to complete. I was responsible for creating an algorithm for the multiplier that was quite
challenging. The multiplication has diverse steps and involves a lot of complexity to implement. I
tried to narrow down the complexity and combine steps to simplify the algorithm. I succeeded in
reducing the complexity by almost ten-fold. The excellent reviews my project report met with
encouraged me on the path of further research.
As my major project in the final year, I worked on MRI image enhancement techniques using
MATLAB to help physicians detect tumors in the brain and facilitate easy diagnosis. I teamed up
with another batch-mate to undertake this assignment. Our guide tasked me to write the code in
MATLAB to check the values of different comparative analysis techniques. Based on this work,
we published an article in the International Conference on Communication and Signal Processing
2019 titled ‘Comparative Analysis of Various Enhancement Methods for Astrocytoma MRI
Images.’
To expand my skill-sets, at college, I also attended a robotics workshop and underwent a training
program on SAP Business one tool held by computer science department of our university. Apart
from technical skills, I partook in many extracurricular activities to develop my personality and
managerial skills. As one of the coordinators of the Department’s organization committee, I handle
a team of 15 students and conduct various events for our department students. I am one of the
coordinators in the Purchase Department of Reviera’16 a cultural festival and also coordinated a
fashion show named “Mr. & Mrs. Reviera” held in our university. Using my technical expertise,
I helped organize electronics events in the university’s technical festival, graVITas (2017). I have
also been an active participant in initiatives of the National Service Scheme (NSS). These
involvements improved my communication skills and leadership ability.
Apart from these technical skills that I possess, my personality is shaped by my wonderful
managerial skills. I am one of the coordinators of the department organization VOICE where I
handle strong team of students in conducting various events with my leadership skills. My
technical expertise helped me organized various electronics related events in the university
Technical festival (2016). My work portrayed communication skills, positive approach; innovation
and presence of mind come to the forefront.
During the final year campus placements, I was recruited by Tata Consultancy Services (Apr’18).
I am enjoying my role as I always dreamt of working in a computer science domain during my
under-graduate. In the past one year here, I have been working as a SharePoint developer. This
has added to my understanding of designing websites using JavaScript, HTML, and JQUERY. As
the Lead Developer on some of these projects, I have completed all the assigned work with upmost
sincerity and meet the deadlines with in the stipulated time.
Now, I realize the importance of keeping abreast of emerging technologies to contribute to the
organization. This what has redirected my focus on graduate studies. I realized the significance of
how the study of integrating proper technology in a business can give us great profits.
I want to complete my MS in CS and be able to gain better technical and entrepreneurial skills.
To realize and fulfill my dream, MS in computer science program offered by your University is a
perfect opportunity for me. My ultimate aim after gaining expertise in my field is to apply it for
further advancement of technology in the field of cyber security; the university provides the kind
of exposure needed to broaden my thinking. I wish to contribute significantly to the field through
my sophisticated research work. I find MS computer science the best and one of its kind as the
curriculum, the laboratory facilities and infrastructure is anyone’s dream, and a place I have always
wanted to study and work.
It is my earnest desire that my association with the university as a student under the expert guidance
of the industry will inundate me with knowledge and expand my vision to bring about
revolutionary developments in my field. I hope my application will be considered favourably and
that I will be given the opportunity to be part of the diverse student community at your esteemed
university. I am eagerly looking forward to become a part of the sagacious kinship and if I become
one, I will try to bring the best out of my Institute in terms of academic excellence. I am eagerly
looking forward to seeing my fantasy turn real.
