2
DISTRIBUTION (EEE-815)
Problem: 27
 In a power plant, the efficiencies of the electric generator, turbine
(mechanical), boiler, cycle and the overall plant are 0.97, 0.95, 0.92,
0.42 and 0.33 respectively. What percentage of the total electricity
generated is consumed in running the auxiliaries of the plant?
Answer: Total electricity: 7.32 %

DISTRIBUTION (EEE-815)
Problem: 28
 A thermal station has an overall efficiency of 21% and 0.75 kg of coal
is burnt per kWh of generated energy. Determine the calorific value of
coal.
 Answer: Calorific value of coal: 5,460 kilocalories

DISTRIBUTION (EEE-815)
Problem: 29
 A certain power station consumes 0.7 kg of coal to generate one unit
of electrical energy. If the calorific value of the fuel is 7421 kilocalories
per kg, find the thermal efficiency of the station.
 Answer: Thermal efficiency: 18.15%

DISTRIBUTION (EEE-815)
Problem: 30
 A thermal power plant spends Rs 25 lakhs in one year as coal
consumption. The coal has heating value of 5,000 kcal/kg and costs Rs
500/ton. If the thermal efficiency is 35% and electrical efficiency is
90%, find the average load on the power plant.
 Answer: Average load on the power station: 1,045 kW

DISTRIBUTION (EEE-815)
Problem: 31
 A steam power station of 100 MW capacity uses coal of calorific value
of 6,400 kcal/kg. The thermal efficiency of the station is 30% and the
electric generation efficiency is 92%. Determine the coal required per
hour when the plant is working at full load.
 Answer: Coal Consumption per hour: 48.687 tonnes
