2. The government of Kenya plans to construct roads in the following counties ; Kakamega county
770 km , Kajiado county 210 km and Nairobi county 455 km. The government does not have enough
money to fully construct these roads . Therefore the government decides to built roads of equal
length in each of the counties using available money. What is the maximum length of the road that
the government will construct in each county? (3 marks)

8. Brian bought a laptop at Ksh 36 000 from David after being offered a discount of 10 % . David is
a salesman who normal gets a commission of 5% on each laptop sold. Assuming that no discount

9. The landing place of horizontal jumps in athletic event is rectangular in shape measuring y m by

17. (a) Students tea urns in most school are cylindrical in shape with a diametr of 0.7 m and length
5 m with 4 small taps of radius 3.5 cm for fetching tea. If the tea passes through the taps at the
rate of 50 cm /s . find the time the tank will take to be empty starting with a full tank of tea.
(4 marks)

(b) Students use CK-cups which are in the shape of a frustum of cone of diameters 7 cm and 3.5 cm
and height of 9 cm. Find the volume of one cup. (3 marks)

(c) How many tea urns are needed to serve 3 432 students, if every student takes only 3 cups of tea.
(3 marks)

20. A car moving at an average speed of 72 km/h, accellerates uniformly to 90km/h in 5 seconds. It
then maintains this speed for 20 seconds and finally decellerates to rest in 5 seconds.
(a) (i) Calculate the disatnce covered by the car in metres. (3 marks)

(ii) Determine the decelleration of the car. (2 marks)

(b) The Express way and Mombasa road are parallel to each other from westlands to mlolongo
a distance of 60 km. A bus on Mombasa road and a car is on Express way are moving in the
same direction. If the bus is moving at a speed of x km/h and is 20km a head of the car which
is moving with a speed of (x+10) km/h. Find
(i) The time used by car to overtook the bus. (3 marks)

(ii) find the value of x if the car overtook the bus after covering 40km (2 marks)
