Online Application in the prescribed format are invited for appointment under 4 tier system for various faculty positions for the post of
Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in various Departments listed below of National Institute of Technology, Silchar from

This is a Rolling Advertisement. Hence, applicants can send their


application throughout the year and depending upon the need of
the Institute and availability of suitable candidates, interviews will
be conducted periodically.
Online application received up to 31.01.2015 will be
considered in the first phase of interview for various levels and
departments depending up on the need of the Institute.
Applications received for other departments and levels as well as
after this date will be considered in subsequent round of interview
Since all posts are to be filled through direct recruitment, eligible
internal candidates aspiring for higher AGP and posts may also apply.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR FACULTY POSITIONS


(A)

FOR PROFESSOR (PB 4 with AGP of Rs. 10,500/-)

Qualification: First Class Post Graduates with Ph. D. in relevant


discipline and having consistently very good academic record.
Experience:
10 years after Ph. D or 13 years total [not counting Ph. D
enrolment period] out of which 7 years are to be after Ph. D.
Al least three years to be at Associate Professor level in an
institute of repute.
Essential Requirements: Two Ph. D. guided in Career as sole or
principal supervisor. The following during the past 4 (four) years:
3 (three) papers in SCI journals;
One High value sponsored or consultancy project
Academic outreached activity equivalent to two self financed
courses offered as coordinator and main teacher.
Two experiments or computational design project with added
to teaching laboratories where appropriate
Desirable Requirements:
One or more patents
Supervised more than three students for Ph. D.
Preparing E Learning material.
At least one self financed short term course offered every
year.
Strong liaison with industry.
Offering significant support to institute management.
High value sponsored or consultancy project.

(B)

FOR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (PB 4 with AGP of Rs.


9,500/-)

Qualification:
First Class Post Graduates with Ph. D. in relevant discipline and
having consistently very good academic record.
Experience:
6 (six) years post Ph. D. or 9 (nine) years (not counting Ph. D.
enrolment period) out of which 3 (three) years post Ph. D. and 3
(three) years at the level of Assistant Professor with AGP of Rs.
8000/- or equivalent in a reputed university, R & D Lab or
relevant industry.
Essential Requirements:
4 (four) SCI journals after Ph. D.
1 (one) Ph. D. guided as sole or principal supervisor plus 1 (one)
continuing.
2 (two) projects ongoing or one ongoing plus one completed.
2 (two) experiments or computational projects added to
teaching laboratories where appropriate.
Academic outreached activity equivalent to 2 (two) self financed
short term courses
Desirable Requirements:
One or more patents.
Supervised more than two students for Ph. D.
Strong liaison with industry.
Offering courses through application of ICT.

(C)

FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (PB 3 with AGP of Rs.


8,000/- for regular and AGP of Rs. 7,000/- & Rs.
6,000/- for on contract)

Qualification:
First Class Post Graduates with Ph. D. in relevant discipline and
having consistently very good academic record.
Experience:
3 (three) years post Ph. D. or 6 (six) years after M. Tech. Not
counting Ph. D. enrolment period in teaching / research /
industry [for AGP Rs. 8000/-].
1 (one) year post Ph. D [for AGP Rs. 7000/-].
Essential Requirements:
2 (two) papers in SCI journals outside Ph. D. work; One ongoing
sponsored project for candidates from academia; Two
experimental or computational projects added to teaching
laboratories where appropriate [for AGP Rs. 8000/-].
1 (one) paper accepted for publication in SCI journal [for AGP
Rs. 7000/-].
Desirable Requirements:
1 (one) Ph. D. supervision ongoing; 1 (one) Patent; Experience in
industry or R & D lab. of repute; M. Tech., M.Sc. or B. Tech.
project supervision on live industrial problems [for AGP Rs.
8000/-].
2 (two) papers in SCI journal or 1 (one) patent may be based
on Ph. D. work [for AGP Rs. 7000/-].
1 (one) publication in SCI journal [for AGP Rs. 6000/-].

Age: Preferably below 60 years for all positions.

Note: - Reservation for SC, ST, OBC and PWD are applicable as per GOI norms for the post of Assistant Professor only.

BENEFITS AND PERKS


In addition to normal pay and allowances as applicable to the central Govt. employees
stationed at Silchar, following additional incentives are also available to the faculty members:1. Full funding for attending national/international conference either for presenting a
paper or chairing session as per Institute guidelines under professional development
fund, limited to Rs.3.00lakhs in 3 years.
2. Reimbursement of telephone charges up to Rs.750/- per month.
3. Reimbursement of relocation charges: fares for self and family and for transportation
cost subject to ceiling of Rs. 50,000/- from within India and Rs. 90,000/- from abroad to
join the institute.
4. Attractive Medical facility including referral to outside specialized and reputed hospitals.
5. Accommodation: Suitable residential accommodation as per rules subject to availability
will be provided in the Institute Campus. HRA may be paid in lieu of residential
accommodation.
6. Seed money up to Rs. 10 Lakhs for research work will be provided for faculty members
joining as Assistant Professor.
7. New pension scheme as per Govt. Of India norms.
8. Soft loans subject to maximum of Rs. 50,000/- with 12% interest.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS


1. The Institute reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason.
2. The prescribed qualification and experience are minimum and mere possession of the
same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview.
3. No correspondence will be entertained with the candidates, who are not called for
interview/selected for appointment.

5. Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification of candidature.
6. Legal disputes, if any, with NIT, Silchar will be restricted within the jurisdiction of Silchar
Court only.
7. All reserved category candidates shall be required to submit attested copies of the latest
Caste certificate issued by competent authority at the time of interview, if called for.
Similarly, PWD candidates shall be required to submit proof of physical disability certificate
from competent medical authority at the time of interview, if called for.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:


1. Candidates are requested to provide their active email Id/mobile phone numbers/landline
phone numbers in the application form for easy contact.
2. List of short listed candidates will be displayed on the Website of the Institute.
3. Candidates are advised to visit the Institute Website regularly.
4. Short listed candidates will be informed by email for interviews.
5. The Institute reserves the right to reject any or all applications or it may amend any of the
clauses above as per orders of the competent authority/Govt. of India.
6. Incomplete applications shall be summarily rejected and no communication in this regard
shall be entertained.
7. Applicants should produce Medical Fitness Certificate (as per Annexure A) at the time of
interview, if called for.
8. Candidate should fill in separate application form for each Department, if applying for more
than one Department.
9. Interview for eligible candidates from abroad will be conducted through video
conferencing, if required.

1. Application fees of Rs. 500/- for General/OBC candidates & Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PWD

2. Application should be submitted online.
3. The hard copy of the submitted online application along with the relevant documents &
Transaction slip for the fees to be submitted at the time of interview, if called for.
4. Persons employed in Government and Semi-Government organizations should submit
the NOC at the time of interview.
5. Online application received up to 31.01.2015 will be considered in the first phase of
interview for various levels and departments depending up on the need of the Institute.
