What are we all playing this weekend?
Well? Do tell!

What's that? Sorry, mate. Can't hear you over all the sighs of relief now that Summer Game Fest is over and done with. You'd better write it down instead. Here's what we're all playing this weekend!
Brendan
Brendy speedran the week and slew the final boss - Friday - before we'd even arrived at the door.

I'll be spending some of the weekend playing The Alters for review. Yes, I'm aware the review is late, thanks muchly for pointing that out. There was this teeny little thing called Summer Game Fest that interrupted my playthrough, perhaps you noticed that? Yeah, screw you too. I also feel the urge to play a horror game of some description, after checking out Resident Evil: Requiem last week.

I will be continuing to play Squeakross: Home Squeak Home, the Picross/nonogram puzzler in which you solve grids to produce furniture for a rat. It has a strangely powerful rat character creator and I'm 90 puzzles in and my rat still badly needs a separate room to put his toilet in.

I haven't the chance to write about it - except here, obviously - but I'm eager to finish playing the Next Fest demo for Hell is Us. It's slightly Atomfall-ish in how it eggs you on through spoken directions and written hints, as opposed to glowing waypoints and hyper-linear levels, thus tickling the same part of my brain that thinks it's solved a riddle whenever it achieves the exact thing the game wanted me to do.

More Dune Awakening for me this weekend, mostly to drive a buggy across the desert without actually engaging in any other mechanics. I will also probably watch the second Denis Villeneuve Dune film to get my fair dose of Sandworm-riding thrills; as of right now I've seen the David Lynch flick and Dune: Part One and enjoyed both, though I wish the newer movies had kept the Lynchian twist that apparently everyone in the Imperium has a weird thing for pugs. (Literally the worst type of dog to bring with you to Arrakis...)

The Great Euro Entrucksimmening continues to have a vice grip on my life like it's a toddler that's just been handed an ice lolly, dear reader. The trailer hitch is in deep, and I need my hit of trundling along b-roads somewhat near Switzerland. I have, you'll be terrified to hear, also developed a side-habit. I've finally caved and bought Keep Driving, a game that I've been meaning to play since it came out earlier this year, because I thought its Next Fest demo last year was rad. I may also try out a few more of the current batch of Next Fest demos out there, because playing a taste game that only lasts about two hours is the dream for folks like me, plagued by virtual commitment issues.
Nic
Nic made the mistake of playing a bit of Nightreign with me, and now needs a good week or two of holiday to recover.

I've been playing a bit of the Wildgate open beta over the past week, and I'm still undecided about it. The macro-feel of it is excellent, particularly piloting ships around, and the tension of seeing another ship loom out from behind an asteroid. The micro-feel on the other hand hasn't grabbed me. The PvE elements seem very barebones, and the gunplay too, honestly. Might be an unpopular opinion, but mediocre gunplay feels worse with a low time-to-kill, I find. I might give Wildgate another go this weekend if my fellow shipmates are up for it, but I'll more likely spend all my time in Nightreign and Clair Obscur yet again.
But you, reader dear, what are you playing this weekend?...
